Is it me or has this comedy just been getting worse and worse with each episode. WTF happened to The Sipmsons !!!! I remeber the subtle adult humor, the "cool" bart , and the "not so stupid" homer.
To cheer me up I always watch the older episodes on TV and have sessions 1-4 on DVD in case of emergency.
Your feelings. |

Meh - new writers.
Groening wanted to stop making them YEARS ago, but Fox wouldn't let him - it was their Cash Cow. they said that if he quite working on them, they'd let somebody else step up and, fearing someone would take over and ruin his brainchild, Groening decided to... ruin it himself! :p
They've just run out of good ideas... it'll go off the air someday - don't worry about that. :p |

| havent really seen the most recent 5 or so seasons, but I think seasons 1-3 suck arse, too much focus on the VERY unfunny Bart |

They lost the magic. The characters are no longer what they were before, as Piazza stated, and I see the same jokes used multiple times in new episodes. Taken from other new episodes or old episodes. Homer as the technology show dog on screen, funny? Yes. Homer as the "Dancin'Homer" mascot, funny? Yes. Homer as poochie the dog, funny? Sometimes. Homer inside a panda suit, funny (oh the male panda raped him, how DID they come up with that)? No. Homer inside a metal robot, funny(He gets injured a lot. Been there, seen that many many times)? No. Homer as that superhero with pie on his face, funny(The real homer is stupid, but not this stupid)? No.
Combined with the fact that Homer has a completely different, unfunny, and un-homer like personality, the re-use of the same "Homer is X person" gag (and Homer getting badly beaten) get's old. |

Now don't get me wrong, I like really stupid humor. I mean some of my favorite movies include A Night at the Roxbury and Almost Heroes, and one of my favorite TV programs is Late Night With Conan O'brien(probably the stupidest humor around--cactus chef who plays We Didn't Start The Fire on a flute = hilarity). Family Guy is good. Their humor was meant to be more straightforward from the beginning. While I don't really like them myself I still respect the idea of South Park and Beavis & Butthead. I respect all of these shows, because they are supposed to be stupid and pull it off well to some degree. Fa
The Simpsons wasn't meant to be, though. The characters were based on a foundation that was smarter and that you could identify with more often.

He was a writer on the simpsons from 1991-1993 after he left SNL and before he got his talkshow...I know he wrote the episode "Marge vs The Monorail" and he produced and co-produced several episodes. |
