i agree...i wan't someone like armin van buuren to come by himself and put on a 6 hour set!!! ...when ferry did 8 hours in i think march?? it was sweet!!! just ferry ripping out the tunes...i like those nites the most when its just mark and the headliner, opposed to loads of guests (unless they're all amazing that is.) but many times thats not the case

We need a "Just Armin" show in Toronto.

Give me a break.

or perhaps Guv wont do a 'resident night only' for fear that some other club (boa, system, docks, whatever) could gain ground on them...so they drown the other clubs with their massive pocketbooks.
Jayx1
Well the result is that everybody will expect a guest every week. Whats worse is that most of these guests are half assed at best.
djbruuen
jayx1...please specify on the guests you thought are have asked (or assed if that wasn't a typo and you're calling them asses  )

i haven't seen a bunch so i don't personally know everyone...but the ones i've gone to have been good...but like i said, i avoided boy george and dj remy...because i thought those events seemed like a waste of time
Jayx1
well those are two. Marco V. Sorry he doesnt cut it as a guest worth bringing in on his own in my books. Same thing with tall paul. Great producer but doesnt deserve his own guest spot at a place like guv IMO

Others may disagree and thats fine but this is how i feel.

Bring in high calibre such as Cox, Howells, or Ferry (if u like trance) and leave the B list djs to the B list clubs.

It's hardly "criticism" to say "we need more resident nights without the special guests." I mean the implication is basically that the club is ABOVE that somehow. It's praise for that sketch hole of a club and criticism of the talent they bring in. Not that Mark isn't talented, but give me a break.

Reminds me of the apologies I've gotten from women sometimes - "I'm sorry I acted like that, but I was really pissed off because you were being such a jerk." You and I both know that this thread is anything but criticism.

Edit: that "B list" comment annoyed me even more. If the Guvernment is an "A list" club it doesn't ing deserve to be.

here we ing go again. if guvernment is killing itself, it's cos of it's crowd. and the only reason a lot of people i know go anymore are because of the guests.

exactly. Mark O's a good resident...so when he does a 9 hour set once in a blue moon people apprecaite it. No one would go if he had regular 9 hour sets. He's simply doesn't have that much pulling power.

Yes...there'll always be a crowd at the Guv. The cracked out junkies, the gino's who don't have a clue who's playing, and the club dealers. Other people will just move on, and go to a club where they can actual dance without having to trip over some etard.

The spin saturday guests and the cheap prices keep that place afloat. Take away the guests and the Guv is just one, extremely large club wiith very little else to offer.

No disrespect to Mark O -- he's a good resident, and a local legand. But most spin saturday events get rammed because a lot of non regular clubbers come to see him warmup for the guests. ( which he does very well )

Diginut: the guvernment is the best club in toronto...i say that losely though...i think its an amazing facitliy and i love travelling through its 7 rooms/7 sounds...i think the music they play on the most part is great and i always have a lot of fun when i go...at the same time though, they have many problems ...the bouncers can get annoying and rude sometimes (but i don't know if i blame them because of the environment they're working with...some still act professionally though and are polite if they do something that got in your way unintentionally...but i think the biggest beef with most ppl is the overcapacitating for a few extra bucks...they don't know how to turn ppl down...being turned down sucks, but hell, there should be laws in place for how many ppl can be let in, thats why i avoid the huge huge events most of the time, becasue i know this is how it will be.

jayx1: i'll agree to an extent with you about the a list and b list djs...i think marco v is fantastic...but hes not on my most urgent to see list, but at the same time, i plan to go to guvernment this saturday, and it was an added bonus to know he was going to be playing there...same thing happened in may wiht scott bond...i knew who he was but didn't really care, but his set ended up blowing me away, and to me, he is now proven himself to be an A list dj (to me personally anyways) so it is a matter of preference, so you can't claim who shouldn't come through the guvernment doors, because you personally don't like them. i like seeing the little guys sometimes that are still working up there reputation...i specifically like the djs who are also producers, so you can get an idea of there style from the music.

There ARE laws! You think the Guv obeys them?

Guv is certainly NOT the best club in Toronto, and I really have to ask for an explanation from anyone who says that. Which other clubs have you even been to?
