diginut...i have been to better clubs then guvernment b4...but my post states, i think its the best club in toronto. i've been to almost every club in toronto/gta... viva, docks, boa...the richmond/adelaide area...among others...but i like being able to go through so many rooms at the guvernment (btw. i enter through the drink...so much better) because it keeps me going that much longer...and personally i always have lots of fun when i go...its unfortunate if you don't have a good time when you go...but obviously most of the ppl that go like it or they wouldn't keep coming back...i find theres way to much bitching about guvernment...i'd personally be bitching if we didn't have a place like guvernemnt, because where would all the international djs always play??? boa is to small for my liking...only good on the nites where you want that sort of atmosphere...docks is good, but has its flaws, and viva is just to far out of the way (i live in hamilton, so the toronto drive is enough for me)...

i have a question though: how can the guvernment get away with the firemarshells laws of overcapacitating the building??? and theres always cops out front? i don't get that, its like they're invisable...like guv is far from perfect...but i'm glad we have it

Didn't seem to be the case 6 years ago. But then again, that was around the time that the scene started to explode in Canada, so there were alot of people new and trying out pills for the first time. It made the crowd so much more tolerable and fun to hang with.

Ever wonder how the ComfortZone has survived for the 10 odd years it has...same deal with the Guv...

$$$

The reason why cops just stand outside the Guv, and the reason the Pope has balls is one, and the same...

for decoration.

I don't mean to knock Guv that hard actually. Every club has sketch bags...System, Boa, Guv, Viva, Docks. People single Guv out mainly because it's so big, so naturally the ratio of sketchy peeps is larger then say a club like System or Boa. Personally, i don't mind the sketchiness as much as i hate not being able to find a place to bust once the night reaches peak times. It's something you have to reconcile yourself with though, cause that's what most big clubs are like when it reaches that 1-2 time.

The Guv should actually raise the price of admission. Maybe that might deter some of the noobs who just go there cause it's TO's biggest clubs. Or designate and advertise Thursday as gino shirtless night or something...give the chicks free breast implants, the 40 year old asians free vials of K just so i don't trip over their cracky ass when i go there on spin saturdays.

meh...all said and done, the Guv still has some good events and although i don't party there as much as i used to, it is still one of TO's best venues.

There are definately nights when Boa or System just aren't big enough to host a party which is where the Guv comes up trumps.

For a club of that size, the sketch cases are its most important entity. They push all the cool people to the back of the club where they can feed off each others energy.

so completely not true. if anything , the other way around.

in the next 3-4 yrs you should expect the so called "guvernment" to replace MO with 50 cent. no im not joking, and we can bet on it.;) why do i think this? bcuz the guv will make more cash. cash is all they care about. anyways i hate bitching about guv over and over again, but theres so many threads about guv so i have to post. sorry for those people who get annoyed.

Yes...there'll always be a crowd at the Guv. The cracked out junkies, the gino's who don't have a clue who's playing, and the club dealers. Other people will just move on, and go to a club where they can actual dance without having to trip over some etard.

The spin saturday guests and the cheap prices keep that place afloat. Take away the guests and the Guv is just one, extremely large club wiith very little else to offer.

No disrespect to Mark O -- he's a good resident, and a local legand. But most spin saturday events get rammed because a lot of non regular clubbers come to see him warmup for the guests. ( which he does very well )

WHatever your impressions of the "regular" crowd. The B list guest DJs dont draw much of extra crowd at all. The only time the extra people come lurking out of their caves is on Ultra Spin events or long weekend events.

Mark absolutely has the pulling power for a crowd. WHo do you think made the club what it is?? The problem is that he hasnt been allowed to build the momentum in that place for ages. If you can't get people used to a program then all u will ever do is cater to the "one off crowd". This is exactly what happened to Industry.

And Diginut: Whatever your opinions are about crowds and what not. Im talking strictly music and i personally have a problem with how the music has been programmed weekly by the insertion of these guests.

I agree with this 100%.

$20 before 12 and 25 after

Whether some people admit it or not, Guvernment and Aria are Canadas premier clubs. You play there because you have made it not because you are working your way up the scale. Guvernment is not the place to practice for future events. Does the NBA say "well i think we will let high school guys who are really good practice a few games in the NBA?" NOPE. The resident is world class and the guests should be as well. At least if the guests had some talent i would understand even if they arent "famous" but the performances of the past few months have been mainly garbage. I dont understand why they bother to be honest with you.

Orko
either you have been asked by the guv to get feedback on this idea, or you really do hate the guest djs.

in any case:

i think the guest djs are really important. i personaly do not like MO that much, but people here have stated that they do. a lot of people on TA are real die hards, and if they say they wouldnt go for regular just MO nights, then who would?

I understand that lots of clubbers are not TAs.

when i stand in line at the guv, and talk to people, they are always there to see a guest, never MO. they never say "oh yeah ive been waiting all week to see mark, i cant wait!"

i will personaly never go for just a MO night, because he doesnt pull me. I only go for the guests, and i think the guv does a great job of getting guests, wheather its because of $$$ or because djs actually like playing there. what ever the reason, i am very satisfied with their line ups.
samhouse
Im with Jay on this one...
we need a few weeks of MO Solo sets...

and as long as ive been going to guv..mark has NEVER been hit or miss....especially in the last year...

you guys are entitled to your own opinion tho...
as for the cool guys getting pushed to the back of the club by the "sketch heads"..thats bs too...what the hell defines "Cool" anyways...who are you to make that sort of categorization (ffs is that even a word).

Long live guv...long live mark oliver and long live everyone who comes there week in week out for the RIGHT reasons!!!!
