NUMBER OF PEOPLE STILL WANTED FOR THIS PROJECT: 3

As many of you know, I am taking a digital media class this quarter in which i will have to produce several pieces of documentary-type work. One topic I am very interested in is the issue of file sharing. I am looking for people who are willing to do an interview of 13 questions, at home, with some type of microphone or speech capturing device. I am also willing to use transcripted interviews, but only as a last resort. A few of the questions appear below, and I am certainly willing to take more here: If you have other ideas for questions, please post them as a reply to this thread. If you are interested in helping me out with this, please send me a PM on this forum, telling me specifically if you have the hardware (basically, a microphone) to do this, and what kind of quality it is. Im also usually avaliable on MSN at [email protected]. Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to take some time to participate.

EDIT: This project is due on December 2nd, so Id like to have all recorded samples by november 10th. These samples are going to be used as voice over several different different media shots. Anyone who is willing and able to do some kind of video segment is also helpful, but I may or may not edit the video depending on what exactly you say...

EDIT²: Due to popular suggestion, I am including my full list of questions:

Questions:

1. Does an artist have the right to demand some form of compensation for their work?

2. Is file-sharing preventable? Why or why not?

3. What causes the explosion/recession trends in copyright violation?

4. Who should have the ultimate decision on whether a file is shared or not? The artist? The Label? Someone else?

5. Would you be willing to eliminate the middle man of a label and pay money directly to the artist?

6. How do you feel about the record and film industries’ recent push to use litigation that often (92% of non-settled cases) does not provide enough legal evidence for the suspect to be indicted?

7. What are your feelings on the American Supreme Court’s Betamax decision (if you’re unfamiliar with this court case, notify me and ill provide you with a short legal history)

8. Do you think it is the duty of a government body to produce legislation protecting copyrights?

9. Record companies often release numbers detailing lowered cd purchases that pro-information sharing groups say are exaggerations. Who is telling more of the truth and why?

10. Who is most responsible for copyright infringement? Who is least responsible?

11. Do some people use file-sharing regularly not only for data but for social interaction and/or a need for a feeling of community?

12. Is the comparison between release groups and organized crime fair?

13. Specifically regarding EDM, do you think the costs outweigh the benefits of file sharing? How about the music industry as a whole? How about entertainment (mostly adding film) as a whole?

Maybe if you read the help file or FAQ you would find a solution. and thanks for the input regarding my topic ;P

Additionally, Thanks to the 5 of you who have said you will help. Please excuse this small bump Ive made in hopes of securing a few more volunteers...

I'd help you but I have neither the mic nor the desire to answer these questions in a serious and helpful manner. I will however answer question number two in text:

2. Is file-sharing preventable? Why or why not?

Yes but it might have some undesirable side effects.

Basically, if you killed everybody there'd be no one left to share files.

sounds like a cool project. I can also record my voice, although I do use my headphones as a mic, it comes out perfect. ;)

let me know if ya still need some answers....

and wtf is teh American Supreme Court’s Betamax decision, and with #6, are you saying that the record and film industries try to go to court without much evidence....

:wtf:

Betamax was a Supreme Court decision based off the now laughable Beta tape recorder (The predecessor to VHS). Im not going to go into alot of the legalese, but the basic decision states that just because some people use a product to break the law, selling it for legitimate purposes cannot be illegal (specifically for this case, just because people were illegally taping movies and distributing them, Betamax was not responsible, and thus were allowed to continue to sell their product.)

With #6, Im saying that while the RIAA and the MPAA have provided quite alot of evidence, alot of it is disallowed in court due to the ways in which they obtain it and also the nature of alot of the info. These things are disalloweed in court proceedings and attempts to indict any suspects are usually unsucessful after the removal of such evidence. The numbers I provided are for the United States only, so Im not sure about global court results. Therefore, Im trying to edge people towards the question of is the riaa/mpaa simply using scare tactics of litigation knowing that most people would prefer to settle than risk guilt in court?
