the best players on the market for sound quality are the Creative Labs players.
ive got:
Creative Nomad Jukebox 3
Its huge, but the sound quality is amazing! i also bought it for the recording capabilities, and surround sound output(4 channel), and removable batteries
all creative players have 98DB signal to noice ratios (for line out) and 96DB for headphones. Super clear, you can crank it and it sounds very good.
note: there is even distortion with this player using the EQ, but thats cause of the poor quality of the live sets. If you load on a high quality cd rip, its all good.
The other player i have is:

it has 90db signal to noise ratio |

| My hearing has become an issue. I have had a ringing in my ears very very occasionally where whenever someone talks it becomes a screech in my ears. I was thinking about getting it checked and maybe eventually getting custom ear plugs just because my ears are worth more than 150 bucks to me. Just out of curiousity anyone know exactly what tinnitus is? |

I'm pretty concerned, but Viva and Guv are really the only places where my ears ring or hurt (sometimes System, not often though). I'm not all that sensitive to high frequencies, but I am VERY sensitive to distortion and discord... so as long as the system is clear, I don't have trouble.
Maybe I'm still wrecking my hearing though, who knows... I always hear faraway sounds that nobody else hears (no I don't suffer from auditory hallucinations), so I think my hearing is fine, but word comprehension kinda sucks sometimes... weird. |

| I used to need my hearing a lot more than I do now. However, I do plan on going back to flying so I have to take it easy. Forking out some cash for good earplugs is worth it to me as long as it doesn't distort the sound too much (guess I should look into that). I had a hearing test a few years ago and everything was perfect then...hope I didn't do too much damage since. That guv 8year was not kind to my ears. I don't know how some of you can put up with that and not worry. |

Don't you guys think that if Guv noticed so many people wearing earplugs, they'd turn the music down a little? I mean... don't they have some kinda moral responsibility to their patrons? Even if they're not gonna get sued, why would turning down the volume a little hurt? Has anyone ever decided NOT to go to a club because THE SPEAKERS ARE TOO QUIET?
Maybe they have to keep the music loud to cater to the patrons who have already lost 80% of their hearing... if they turned it down, half the crowd wouldn't hear anything. |

I know ive got damage because: for no apparent reason (mid day, conversation, lecture etc) I get what I would call static bursts in my ear. Its like white noise, I cant hear anything, it sounds like static coming from inside my ear.
ya..so Im ALWAYS wearing my earplugs @ the club. Just regular etymotics, but I wanna keep some semblance of hearing for at least another 25 years. |
