I've got it every year for many years now... never got sick once... it's important to me because I'm a diabetic and I can get hospitalized with the flu... not a good thing.
It's free and easy... it can't hurt you or there'd be lawsuits all over the place. |

I got mine this past Thursday, and I am glad I did. When I get sick, I get violently sick, and I cannot afford to lose time at work.
I suggest that you get it, if it is free, why not? |

I personally don't believe in it.
Sure it may help others but my immune system has always been pretty good (knock on wood; last time I jinxed myself)... :D |

um...getting something just because it's free is NOT a good reason to get it. I'm not at all implying that it's unsafe, but just because the gov't pays for it and says it's safe doesn't automatically mean it's good for you...
btw...for everyone who is saying "get it cause it's free"...how many of you have had something far more beneficial (IMHO)...how many of you have had your FREE hepA and hepB vaccinations? hhhhmmm...I bet far more people get flu shots than those ;) |

yeah I totally agree with that. Besides I hate needles and the last time I got the shot i got sick.......

those with some more specific knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong, or explain the specifics better...I stopped biology after Grade 11, lol...although I'm a bit of a nutrition freak, I'm no doctor ;)
Aren't many (all?) immunization shots giving you a little bit of what they are meant to protect you against? The logic being that by introducing a very small, controlled amount of the virus/whatever into your system, your immune system produces antibodies that will fend off the virus in the future...or with things like allergy shots, that you slowly build up a resistance?
In some cases, especially if your immune system is weakened at that particular time, that small amount of the virus is enough to actually make you sick :p
Some opponents of immunizing against so many things is that all of this artificial boosting of your immune system can be determental in the long run as your immune system doesn't "learn" to naturally build up defences itself. I'm honestly not sure if that's true or not though.
This could all be very oversimplified...or wrong, lol...anyone, anyone? |
