Oh Canada, woe Canada, you have spoken. You have accorded Cherry a place in the pantheon, alongside Tommy Douglas, Sir John A. Macdonald, Terry Fox, Frederick Banting, Lester Pearson, Alexander Graham Bell, David Suzuki, Pierre Trudeau and Wayne Gretzky.

Cherry doesn't belong on the list of course, but there's someone who's far worse.

Pierre Trudeau - the worst Prime Minister of Canada EVER. Every major problem in Canada today (Quebec seperation, high debt, Western alienation, irrelevence in the world, crappy military) can be traced back to him.

i second that. Tredeau got us into the mess we are in today. I think it will be several generations before people wake up to that reality though.

Banting and Best would get my vote (a tie) since they developed insulin which so many people around the world now depend on to survive.

I was watching CBC last night, and they were critisising the Top 100 show themselves.

only 3 women in the top 50(celien dion, shania twain, and somebody else, but all singers)

then they show an interview of some guy, who is like 'this just proves canadians are just a bunch of shallow, media sheep'

i thought it was pretty funny. they went on to show that this program was actually a copy of the "Top 100 Britons", which had similar problems and was scrapped. But a lot of other countries are doing it, its actually being licenced out like a franchise.

i think the fact that 140,000 people voted, is a significant portion of Canadians.

Part of the problem could sten from, a lot of people being immigrants, and not actually knowing the full history of canada.

Its hard for women to make the top 100 in history when their involvement of history has been limited to mainly the last 30 or 40 years of Canada's 135 year history. Other than Laura Secord (not the chocolate) and a few writers there aren't very many women contributers to our history except in the recent past.

Now that women have become very active in politics, science and media, female legends are currently being made. Run this contest 50 years from now and the results will be much much different demographically i'm sure.

out of 30 million? i don't think that is significant at all. just 0.46 percent. but i guess with election turn out in canada that isn't that bad.

i never got a chance to vote. i never even knew about this. who were the people that were voting?

meh, this voting obviously is going to leave out some people and place some higher than others. but it's like that with any popularity contest. i mean is Tiesto really the number 1 dj?

People who watch the CBC religiously and have too much time on their hands, along with those who responded in backlash to the Don Cherry censorship fiasco were those that made up the majority.
