I meant the high american dollar. Good for you, not necessarily good for our country.

Oh sorry man my mistake. I just remember you saying you had a ballot and were voting in the united states elections. Shouldn't make generalization like that though. I meant the united states

Uhh, wasn't it Eves, along with Epp and Stockwell, who waffled on deregulation and imposed the nonsensical hydro rate cap?

yup. They realized they made a mistake and put the cap back on. Dalton promised not to lift the cap and then did lift it in one of the first moves he made as premier. Dalton break a promise? How surprising!

You're on crack.

There have been many successful deregulations of the electricity sector around the world - all which have benifited the consumer, environment and gov't alike.

honestly, give me one example. I am all for deregulations when it comes to such areas, but as far as i know, every deregulation of the hydromarket have been a bad move.

Scandinavia isnt the socialist uptopia that everyone pretends it to be. I had people begging me for change in the Stockholm train station as well.

Maybe St Andrew can fill us in

Sure ;)

Scandivia is still different from the rest of the world, at least somewhat, not as much as it used to be. Taxes are high as , 50% income tax, 25% income tax.

In the big cities (stockholm mainly) it do excist beggers, their problem tho is not that the scoiety dont want to take care of them, but that they dont want to be taken care of. Many of them should really be on a mental hospital or something similair, cause they all do have huge problems, but i guess they cant force them. also there is a huge shortage of apartments in stockholm which i guess also leads to that (since it is almost impossible for a normal person to get a apartment in central stockholm). anyway, we still have the best social coverage in the world. best healthcare (according to some studies at least), really good school (we even get paid to go to school on a upper secoundary school level ;) also university/collage is free and you get money from the government for that too. sweden is still about equal oppurtuinites, but it is poor people nowadays too. the police and army is crap too. personally i have nothing about such high tax society, but i dont support the current government since they dont really realizes the problems with it (too many people missusing the system, esp when it comes to "long sickness" substitues... etc)

oh well, class is beginning but i think i covered some of it at least.. :p

People here don't get it either. A lot of homeless people DONT WANT help which is why there should be laws enforced that allow them to do what they want WITHOUT pestering people by begging. ALso the psychologically challenged should be brought indoors.

The system here gets abused quite a bit. They are smart though because whenever someone challenges the system and wants reform the socialists label them as some sort of cold heartless uneducated brute. If we ever want to solve the problems of this country we have to get people talking about it without the stigmas involved.

In regards to electronics and other imported items. Absolutely.

You are right. 2/3 of the rise is thanks to the US dollar decline but the positive thing about it now is that its almost exclusively canadian.

By the time u pay customs, its not worth importing most of the time.

The canadian dollar is stronger in part due to the us weakening, but also because of our strong economy, export surplus and federal surplus. We are the only G8 Country to have 7 consecutive balanced budgets which is getting us some attention and strengthening our dollar. We only have a balanced budget because our gov't rapes us in taxes and our gov't doesnt fullfill their global responsibilities.

Recently, a bunch of foreign dignitaries replied to a canadian politician saying "sure you have a surplus, we've been paying all your bills".

there's no or very little custom fees when you import electronics...

most of things I buy from the states are electronics which come cheaper with shiping and taxes than buying it here.

Exactly. The big fees (if any) are usually in the BROKERAGE portion of the cost. Find a good broker and tell your shipper to specify that it be used.
