I pretty much agree with what he is saying.

Only use CDs if it enhances what you are doing. If you use CDs because you are just too lazy to shop or carry around a box of records than you dont deserve the spotlight.

Imagine if you went to see a life performance of a band and they all sat there with their laptops instead of using their instruments? How boring would that be? The same thing goes for DJing. Part of the show is are the turntables and watching the hands on art of mixing. Anybody can press play on a CD player. Not many people use records and certainly dont cue and scratch them.

As I say, CDs and laptops and samplers should be part of the show and not the whole show unless it actually enhances the experience.

Nog, imagine if, instead of watching the Band play live, you got to watch them pop their CDs into a player and let you listen. Oooooo Aaaahhh.

I think it would be Neat if DJs did more LIVE acts (NU NRG and Infected Mushroom both blew me away) rather than just playing records/cds for us all night.

Well really, the way clubs like Guv fill up and become giant human sardine cans, you can't help but want some form of entertainment other than just the music! With no room to dance you need a reason to be there other than to hear really loud tracks. If a DJ is just standing there bobbing his head and hitting play on the CD player... I sure as hell don't want to be there if I don't have room to have my fun. Now, if they can entertain us with something else while playing their CDs, I have no preference :)

u go to a club to dance and share a vibe with other people and u check out a headliner to hear some new, never before heard tracks...

if it werent for cdplayers and samplers u would never see the most innovative talent out there in the works of Jamesholden, Zabiela, Sasha, Adam Freeland, the list goes on

(notice that 2 of the artists i mentioned are oldskool legends that have brought themselves up to date with technology and have embrassed it to give us something more than just a regular beatmatch??)

as for ur comment on standing and "jsut bobbing their heads", whether its cds or vinyl, in both cases, theres beatmatching involved so dont say that cd djs "just press play"

all CDs and about to switch over to DJ'ing on my laptop, which is taking a lot of time – I’m waiting on the controller as I don’t really like the idea of dj’ing with a mouse in my hand, so I built this controller which I thought would ready for summertime but has been held up in production. Hopefully I’ll have it ready for the Australian tour, I may have it in my hands next week. Once I get the controller I am going to pretty much switch to DJ'ing with the laptop – what you can do is mindblowing. It takes DJ'ing and turns it on its head, its DJ'ing for the 21st century! 25 years of the Technics deck, as a medium - it has more than surpassed its capabilities, its served us really well, but there are new tools out there that allow DJ's to almost remix live in a club – which is the ultimate form of DJ'ing

Considering ive worked next to most of these guys for 5 years and used to spin id consider myself an expert here.

Im not anti-CD if they are used properly. Guys like Zabiela and Freeland take it to a whole new level by doing things with the Cds and samplers that cannot be done with vinyl. My problem is with the guys who use CDs solely out of laziness. If you are too freaking lazy to carry a couple of boxes of records on your round the world journeys then you are not worth $30,000 per gig im sorry to say.
