Should MODS police flame war thread hijacks?

Question: Should mods police flame war thread hijacks?

Take this thread as an example:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...12&pagenumber=2

an interesting thread topic about colours in songs. It quickly devolves into a war between the original poster and someone else.

I don't know what Mods do for a living, and I think too much policing is a bad thing, however I think that if it was an enforced policy that these kinds of hijacks were not allowed that the boards would be better overall. That's my theorum. Discuss :)

Not in the Chill Out Room. The thread you mentioned probably would have been recieved better in the Music Discussion section. In the COR, between all of the "Who's Ass Is Hotter?" and "Post your 'Owned' Pictures" threads, you should expect some useless responses. Then more useless responses to those useless responses until all you have are responses made just by posting pictures like:

until the thread eventually dies.

Exactly what the COR was made for.

Well, when you take it out of context like that, if you read from the first page, you can kindly see that I voiced an opinion that I thought he was crazy for hearing colours. Upon explaining what he meant, I took back the comment, and said he was a New Age Hippie. I never flamed him, you can take it as a flame, but its a neither good or bad. Shortly after, this is where it gets nasty...

Nar he is just a tosser. This Rodrico guy is negative in all his posts. I mean this guy is trying to "figure people out" on posts. He is apparently an online Phycologist who can judge your personallity by the dribble you write online: which says to me says he is a Hippy. Maybe he should shoot himself in the head instead of leaving stains around the place where ever he goes.

Yes, that was Xenocreator_PG_ who decided to step up to the plate, and I dished out back something to silence him.

Most people think that I do this for enjoyment, or some sick twisted pleasure, and their right. But the important thing is that if you dont want to start a flame war, you cant give people like me something to talk about.

Anyhow, these outbursts are just phases, we come and go like the season's, you can expect some quiet time soon. Mid Terms almost over, I get to go out and have fun and party once again!

P.S. Dont take things seriously people, and enjoy the burns.

Spot on. There are other forums for serious discussion of almost any subject you could want to discuss. The chill out room is exactly that: a place where people can just take it easy and post whatever stupid/ridiculous/asinine things pop into their heads.

Why even bother capitalizing or using sparse puncutation?

:stongue:

i dont really see a big problem with flame wars. i was almost enjoying the massive one between arbiter and myself last night. key word is almost. i think some things should be policed, like when someone just says something so ed up that it just pisses a bunch of poeple off.. i good example is whatever spec said to get himself banned. i dont remember what he said, but i do remember reading it and thinking, "what the hell." i believe it was in the thread that theresa started about a friend at work dying. :(

i think if a flame war is constructive, creative, and can ultimately lead to a better understanding of something, or has potental of actually helping a thread, it shouldnt be interupted by mods, but in some cases, i've seen thread that should have been closed up in the first few flame posts...
