Has anyone seen the new Rememberance Day quarters?
They are very awesome, but the sad thing is the red middle rubs off VERY EASILY. I have collected a couple already, and am putting them aside for keep sake.
Neatness...

How does a middle of a coin rub off? :conf: That sounds kinda weird, to me.
Down here, my fav. quarters are the Bi-Centennial ones. On the front you have your traditional George Washington, and the year reads as "1776-1976," and on the back, you have a Patriot marching with a drum. The coin is special to me cuz I was born in '76. :happy2: Spirit of '76, baby! :happy2: |

= nov 11.
we observe a moment of silence for fallen soldiers.
we wear poppies and recite a great poem "in Flanders Fields"
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields. |

I guess our equivalent of that would be Memorial Day. (5/31). I don't recall us having any poems for it though.
I'm not sure what a 'poppie' is though. |

A poppy is a flower...many of them grew in a field where soldiers of the war fell. |

poppie = blood red flower used for 2 things:
1. a common flower in france used as a symbol of rememberance for veterans of the WW's.
2. a source of opium. |
