This is such sad news, the man is a legend in music and will be greatly missed, he was so diverse in his listening and was the only Dj that Radio 1 could not playlist.
Many a long journey up and down the country have been made so much better by listening to John Peel and never knowing what to expect from him, the peel sessions are his legacy to what he has given to music
Rest In Peace John Peel

John Peel was the best DJ to ever grace BBC radio, his knowledge of music in general was second to none. When I used to listen to his show whilst doing the night shift at a place i used to work he often played trance, hard house and hardcore interspersed with a whole range of other musical genres. No other DJ would get away with it, I also got a few shout outs as well which was ace.
I feel sorry for whoever has to take over his slot, they have a mammoth task ahead of them.
John Peel RIP.

Legendary radio DJ John Peel dies
Veteran BBC broadcaster John Peel has died at the age of 65, while on holiday in Peru.
Peel, whose radio career spanned 40 years, was on a working holiday in the city of Cuzco with his wife Sheila when he suffered a heart attack.
He was BBC Radio 1's longest-serving DJ and in recent years had also presented Home Truths on Radio 4. (more online click below)

agreed.
I found his voice really relaxing. I used to listen to his show in bed sometimes. The man truly was a legend and ive never heard such an eclectic blend of genres in one show. |

RIP
Absolutely shocking news. We have lost an absolute legend and he can never be replaced. Hes the only dj who played hard techno followed by a folk song and then the Clash! I have fond memories of listening to his late show on radio 1, and watching him present coverage of Glastonbury years ago. As a tribute the New Bands tent at the festival will be named after him
| quote: | Glastonbury's New Tent is to be renamed the John Peel Stage, according to a report on BBC News.
"It's very appropriate because it's all the sort of music that John would have chosen," Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis told BBC Somerset Sound.
John Peel had the knack of ignoring hype, and letting the music do the talking. And if anywhere in Britian has a similar attitude towards music, then it's surely Glastonbury Festival.
eFestivals is sure that the thanks of thousands - if not hundreds of thousands - of Glastonbury attendees over the years go to Michael Eavis for announcing this most fitting tribute to John Peel, who'll be very sadly missed. |
