IMO the differnce between an Askew track and any other heavy purcussive peice (which might just sound boring on a club system) is found in Askews ability to create a melodic feel to his tracks. Its not your typical 'boom boom ' sh!t that scares all the girls off the dance floor. Askew has a unique talent to turn a purcussive laden peice into something interesting and energetic. That is the genius behind John Askew.

+1

And his melodies are always subtle and soft. No hard or distorted melodies. A seamless blend of pure bass and melodious highs.
Class. :)

fact of the matter is, trance/techno etc ARE made for clubs primarily, this is their prupose as far as i am concerned... there are a lot of tracks that sound e when you are sat at home listening, but when you hear them in a club.. OMG!! if they were made primarily for listening this just wouldn't be the case ;)

all tracks are made to be heard in a club. thats what this music is all about anyways and if you have been to one i think you would agree with me

You really are a muppet, this just proves that fact. PvD has crashed and burned, so what I take a song title of his and put it in my sig. I can do as I please and I think that it still good advice for today.

haha, today i disagree with you and i am a muppet, yet about two days ago when i agree with you i am 'well informed and know more than most on here' or something along those lines :haha:

my issues is not with you taking a track title, that was beside the point. The point is john askew offers nothing more than PvD does, yet one has 'crashed & burned' & one is new & fresh and deserves to get big. I'm not disagreeing with your assesment of the situation but something in there doesnt make any sense.

you are wrong.

john askew offers much more than pvd does. his music and his dj sets are very much different to any artist around usually. well, put it this way, john askew has never bored the living out of me, pvd has.

john askew is not trying to emulate pvd in any way, and i think that is possibly the most ridiculous comment i have ever heard from you.

i LOVE john askew and i LOVE pvd!

but they r very different in production and DJing

I love Johns stuff,

The Door and Are You Reading Me are wicked.

And his remix of Sensorica - Few Days Away is just plain awesome, it has so much energy and drive behind it. I challenge anyone to NOT dance to this in a club, i dont think its possible! The bassline just grabs your ass and makes it wiggle :D :D

Thats the only production of Askew so far I really like! Good melody and the beat well, .. there's said a lot about his beats on this thread and I don't really agree on how unique and proper they fit, I don't see (correct: hear :stongue: ) any difference with a lot of other trance productions nowadays, but okay, ... thats just my opinion here :)

ps. For instance the break in Waterplanet - Introspection (John Askew Remix) is much too long, and the melody is not really adding that much to it either, ... I think a big shame because the samples and sounds in that track were good!

The fact that Paul keeps playing Askew's productions as well as signing them says enough about whether Askew is trying to "emulate PvD" or not.

Recently, his sound has gone a bit stale IMO, much thanks to the ever so prominent kickdrum. His early output is wicked though, I still remember when DJ Stigma blew my socks off with Vellum in 2002.
