Okay, so I just expounded on my original comments. I'm sure that I could easily conjure enough words to write a book on it but I'll forgo that route.
Anyway, I wasn't the one comparing electronica events to corporate and mass-media sponsored sports events. I would never have used such a flawed analogy.
Many people cherish their families and friendships, some cherish books and/or education or even the arts which (depending on who you talk to) includes the very same music that brings us all to this website in the first place. However, there are many twisted people out there that hold dear to themselves things such as hatred, death, destruction, malice, etc. So yeah, even those things that seem meaningless to me will undoubtedly hold meaning for others, but that doesn't automatically make them right.
It takes a hell of a lot of effort to break free from your mass-media induced programming, but you are here on TA so at least you seem to be making positive strides. Now go and read some real books and feed your brains with some actually meaningful statistics other than that RBI and ERA effluvium that keeps you and the rest of our nation in a blind stupor.
I've said my piece, so sayonara

I still fail to see the difference between me spending time listening/talking about music and playing/watching/talking about baseball.

If people could focus this much energy and attention on making the world a better place instead of alotting it to fabricated and meaningless diversions, we would all be much happier. |
And wouldn't this message board and music itself be a distration from the problems and realities of the real world? |

Actually, I still vividly remember my little league team winning the championships back in the day - and the same with my soccer team when I was playing in the 16 and under group when I was 12. So much for your assumptions.

You just don't understand because you have never taken a step back to look at the big picture. |
I do step and look at the big picture all the time. I work in an emergency room....You don't think I see the big picture. All I know is that tens of thousands possibly millions were made happy on wed night when the sox won the world series.People in New England care about the sox and believed in them.Is it so wrong to believe and care about something so much.Sports whether u like it are not are a microcausm of society so I totally get the big picture.I guarentee that the sox victory has made new england a better place...That all hope and desire with hardwork, dreams do come true even if it takes 86 years to do so.Believe me Boston is a better place after the world series victory (excluding the rioting)and nothing you can say can take that away. The End |

I'm very happy, and my happiness isn't derived from material possessions.
And in all honesty, it doesn't make a difference where you live because wherever you go, there you are.
I still believe that this is *the* greatest country on earth, but I also believe that a good percentage of the people in our country are sellout's. |

Well, Baltimore had a great celebration after the Ravens won the Super Bowl, but nothing really changed in regards to anyone's quality of life (except maybe the football franchise and the players). You might be confusing sports with humanities. I'm not exactly sure how a winning baseball franchise helps people unless they are sponsoring free games for charity or something like that, which I sincerely doubt. |

Those victories don't compare at all to the Red Sox victories so that is an extremely weak argument. That's Baltimore which definitely is not as hardcore about sports as New England. If you lived here then maybe you would understand. The Red Sox "Nation" is prolly 100 times bigger than the amount of Ravens fans.Im done arguing with you |

There are no rivalries in EDM. You won't see electronica fans fighting or rioting over anything. Music is an art medium that brings diverse groups of people together, forming a cohesive bond and emphasizing unity. Music fans don't heckle the DJ's, they don't throw change at the DJ's when they put on a track that they don't like, and they sure as hell don't come to events with the malicious intent of thwarting other DJ's performances.
As to your second question, no. Music isn't a distraction to anyone. Music promotes peace, unity, etc. - it's spiritually and emotionally healing. Why do you think that there are music therapists?
Don't you remember "We Are the World," "Live Aid," etc?

I have seen people get crazy on this message board when defending their favorite song/DJ. I have seen people fight at clubs (albeit, not over music, but they're still at clubs where they should be 'spiritually healing.' Well, in any case, I'll be watching baseball in March again next year. |
