New VIDEO of Osama
View this Thread in Original format

Osama just released a video of himself speaking to americans. He specifically mentioned kerry and bush and the election. It seems like this is a big F U to George Bush just before the election.

This should be interesting to see if it affects the polls.

I think instilling further fear in the populace benefits Bush in the short run

seems like it is good news for kerry:

"Despite entering the fourth year after 11 September, Bush is still deceiving you and hiding the truth from you and therefore the reasons are still there to repeat what happened," -- Osama

It's interesting looking at the way each website (CNN, CBC, Al Jazeera) reports the story.

CBC, Al Jazeera, CBC, ABC all report him saying "Your security is not in the hands of (Democratic candidate John) Kerry or (President George W.) Bush or al-Qaida. Your security is in your own hands ...."

CNN cut out the "in your own hands" part. But the headline says he "told Americans their security does not depend on the president they elect, but on U.S. policy" The CNN story reads differently from the stories on the other sites. As if they are really carefully editing it before putting it up. Management approval, perhaps?

I think the tape will work more against Bush than for him.

Heh, yet another blossoming political TA discussion.

Wait... BBC also mentions that "the security of the American people depended neither on Mr Bush nor on his challenger, John Kerry, but on US policy."

The truths are out there.

Kerry doesn't have much of a choice actually. No matter who wins the election, the US will continue to occupy Iraq, at least for next year or so. The question of leaving Iraq would not only leave a vacuum of power, it would also make Iraq the safe haven for terrorists. Not only that, but pulling out prematurely will be seen as a defeat which no president elect will want.

Kerry might get other nations involved in helping with the stabilization of Iraq, that's about it. Otherwise, i think it's basically going to be a continuation of what Bush and his neo-cons started.

You're assuming Kerry wouldn't do anything differently from Bush, which (IMO) is a horrible assumption.

I disagree on the continuation part of Bush. Just because they can't pull out doesn't mean things won't be going in a different direction from Bush's agenda.
