i'm not realy a fan of watergate... in my opinion, there are to less pumpin' basses in there...
but old scoolfirends of me think it's great...

my soundstyle is progressive, so i think watergate isn't for me :)

I like his work as DJ Quicksilver better. Haven't heard Infinity yet, but Heart of Asia really didn't do it for me.

Personally i think Watergate / DJ Quicksilver produces cheesy e. I think i heard one DJ refer to this sort of stuff as "cartoon trance"! I really try to avoid this kind of musik at all costs...

Oh what a suprise! someome calls dj quicksilver/watergate cheese! and why? not because its bad or cheesey because it got into the charts! just think of all the producers that would be cheese if everyone called chart stuff cheese...

M.I.K.E aka Push
System-F
Gouryella
DJ tiesto
Rank 1
Robert miles

and LOADZ more! IMO cheese is only cheese when it sounds cheesy or has been overplayed too much, not because of the producer, there are many producers ot there that get labelled as cheese regardless of how good their songs are cuz ppl just don't wanna know. Cheese is just for arrogant ppl who can't take that other ppls tastes in music are different to their own. and 'cheese' as you call it will always be there so you all might as well get used to it. Iam not a cheeseaddict by an means. I just get fed up of this whole arrogancy of labeling trance as either good or 'cheese.'

Why is it arrogant to label something as cheese, which is really just a euphemism for e musik with obvious synths and buildups, etc? If you think Gouryella and Tiesto et al are cheesy e your entitled to that view. I've heard it said that many/some DJ's turn their noses up at Tiesto/Ferry Corsten.

It's not arrogant to label a particular brand of music as e *although* i think there often is a certain snobbery about it. I personally think that Watergate/DJ Quicksilver is more popular or noticeable then Tiesto/Push/etc because the music has a more commercial sounding feel to it then any of the music produced by these other artists and this appeals to more people, like all commercial sounds.

That doesn't a priori mean that because the music itself is popular that it's crap but i think in this case most people who are really into their dance musik would turn their noses up at the likes of Watergate. All of the friends who i know that are into their Dance Music would probably turn their noses up at DJ Quicksilver for the same reason i would. It's overly commercial sounding cheesy e. I hate the stuff.

Well, too bad you hate that type of music, since I actually loved (and still do to a certain degree) Dj Quicksilver and his tracks a few years back (remember Bellissima, Free, Ameno, etc...)

Some of those tracks were featured on the "best trance anthems" CDs and compilations along with PVD's tunes and tons of other famous producers/DJs... that just tells me that they were solid tracks.

And if you guys think Dj Quicksilver's songs were overplayed, too commercial or whatever, remember Darude and Sandstorm, one of the most popular songs at raves last year (Sensation 2000, Mayday 2000, etc.), and ask yourself how many times have you heard that song on the radio...

Cheers from Toronto!
