The winner: George W. Bush (pg. 3)

I posted this another thread as well but felt I should also post it here.....

Wow what a sad day this must be for the world. I hope the United States realizes just what a destructive wheel it has set in motion today. Not only have American voted Bush into office, they have also reinforced Republican control of the House and put more Republicans in the Senate. Bush can now appoint literally anyone he wants into the Supreme Court.

So to summarize, a man who did NOT receive the popular vote in his original campaign four years ago, who did NOT receive a mandate by the people and won through sneaky and coercive means now has used fear-mongering in order to scare the public into voting. He now also has pretty much control of the House, The Senate, and soon, the Courts. Three entities that are supposed to be separate.

I remember someone in history who also used sneaky and fear-mongering methods to consolidate power in order to fight a war. He lived in Germany in the 1940s, you might have heard of him.

Remember this day, for every Canadian that has ever made fun of the intellectual capacity of an American, you now have concrete facts to back up your ridicule. Americans have made a grevious mistake today, and I genuinly hope that the world will not suffer for it.....

Piss off.

let me pout it in 5 year olds terms.

More American citizens voted for Bush than Kerry.

soooo, since every American citizen had a chance to vote, and Bush won, the American people made their choice.

be bitter;)

Not in his first election four years ago they didnt. Do you think if 9/11 didnt happen, he would have ANY chance of winning again???? As much chance as his father did. Because when people aren't focusing on safety (by someone who never actually served in combat, thanks to good ol' daddy mind you) and they look around and realize... "hey! I'm out of work! and my kids are starving!" Then you can bet Bush would have been out on his ass. To use such a tragic and horrible event and milk it to such as degree is disgraceful. 9/11 - that is the ONLY reason he won.... remember that....

I simply chose to phrase my response in the manner I did because of your effort to highlight how Americans voted for Bush. Perhaps I misinterpreted your highlighting.

Congratulation to President Bush and all his supporters.

I feel that, out of the two major sides, your arguments were the most reasonable on the forum. This may very well be the reason Bush won. Though I hate the guy, his policies and his demeanor, he apparently won things fair and square. Bush is an average American president, imo, and regardless of who won (barring a third party shocker), I didnt feel things would change much around here anyways.

I agree with someone else's post (perhaps in another thread) and their wish that Bush will concentrate on the duties of being a proper president rather than reaping the rewards of this huge win. Only the next 4 years will tell.

Again, congratulations to the President (-Elect) and to his supporters on this forum.

Hey, he's from Croatia originally. And I don't have a sister, but if I had, I'd never bang her! Probably...but then there's this damn fine niece of mine...eh, nevermind.

Anyway, yeah, apparently Bush won. Again. Sad. But that's when you give hillbillies equal rights as you give to the educated people.

actually, people mentioned "morality" as the reason they voted for Bush.

apparently, Kerry's moral character wasn't up to par with the Majority's expectations.

Could someone tell me, in a nutshell, what happened? Why did Kerry give up? The American system is too different from where I live, and I'm still trying to understand why there's a problem if they were almost tied.

Bush won. Is that simple. He got the popular vote and the electoral vote, although the latter is not yet official. Kerry, I think, realized there's no chance of him winning now. In fact, I think he was expecting to win by a big margin. It didn't happen. I'm not surprised he conceded.

My girlfriend used to live in Brasil for 1 1/2 years and she recently told me that citizens are required to vote in elections, leading to a large amount of scandal and bribery. Fortunately, in the United States, people are allowed to choose whether or not they want to vote and make an educated (or not, if you choose to believe) decision beforehand.

In the United States, each state is given a certain amount of Electoral Votes, based on the population of the state in proportion to the entire United States population. When a candidate wins the majority of the popular vote in each state, they get that state's electoral votes toward their total. Two states, Nebraska and Maine, split their electoral votes by their congressional voting districts. When a candidate reaches 270 electoral votes, they have received a majority and have won the election. George Bush was on the cusp of receiving the majority of the votes, as he would've received 20 from Ohio and was already at 254, so Kerry conceded.
