Do you know of any tips and tricks on how to get nifty effects in FruityLoops?
My problem is rather simple, I'm working on a simple bassline consisting of nothing more than kick, snare, hats, and bass-synth. Unfortunately I can't find any good "snare" instruments. They don't sound professional, any of them! In Trance, the "secondary" beat (the snare) sounds "warm" and distinct. I can't find anything like that in FL. Any ideas? |

get your hands on a TR-909 snair, this is about standard for trance. BTW what do you mean by "secondary beat"?
Distinctness--> high attack, short decay
Warmness --> a slight bit of reverb |

Pjotr, thanks; is TR-909 built into FruityLoops?
When I say "secondary" I mean: 'kick' is first-beat, 'snare' is second-beat, with hats in between.
So the snares that I could find in FL sound very rough and more like a kick. |

i don't know of anything built in fruityloops, but the net is flooded with samples of the TR-909. If you can't find anything you like tell me exactly what u want and i'll put it up.
And who the hell puts snares on every 2 and 4, I'd go for closed hihats instead. Or open hihats at a much lower volume than the open hihat on the 3.
[edit] ok i misread that i understand now where ya put yer snares ;). Anyways, also you should also try handclaps instead they are more often used.[/edit] |

Yeah, well I've tried handclaps, but they're not used so often.
But the snare should be close to the handclaps, in that it should be "warm" and "smooth." :)
BTW I listened to your "Terminal" and I liked the snare there, did you just d/l it off some site? Any other ones you might suggest?
Thanks |

Well, you can use WAV files just like any other sample.
All you do is, click on the current-instrument name, choose "Load Sample...", and load your WAV file.
For instance FL doesn't have a good snare instrument, so the WAV file that Pjotr G is going to send me I'll load in as a sample. |

And that very sample would be this:
