For all of you who are so hellbent on saying that the election was won by rednecks/hillbillies and the like, and that you're just sooo much better than them...

Have you forgotten?

Bill Clinton: a.k.a. "Bubba" The epitome of an Arkansas hillbilly redneck.

Al Gore: Born & Raised in Tennessee(yet couldn't even carry his own state)

Seriously, it's time for this talk to stop. The hypocrisy is laughable.

Bill Clinton graduated from Georgetown University and was subsequently awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and studied at Oxford. Upon completion of his studies at Oxford he attended and graduated from Yale Law.

Epitome of a hillbilly?

Al Gore received his B.A from Harvard and moved on to the Vanderbilt School of Religion and graduated from Vanderbilt Law School.

Redneck hillbilly?

I don't know. All of our opinions are s anyways, so why did I even bother to post that?

My friend wrote an interesting article at his website : www.aaroncommand.com

Heres a snippit i thought that was really insightful. Hes not as crazy as some people on the left side - he knows he doesnt belong that far out.

Fellow liberals, if we want to win in 2008, it's time to stop beating that dead civil rights horse and find a center for our party that will actually resonate with the majority of voters.

Because the sad truth of our party, Democrats, is that we ignore the majority and we pander to the weak, the small, and the apathetic. The Left invested millions in getting out the youth vote. But the youth just don't vote in droves no matter how many commercials you run on MTV, and the net effect of multimillion dollar Rock the Vote campaigns was to keep the percentage of voters under 30 constant. Kerry waffled on gay marriage for fear of alienating the gay vote, and millions of new voters rewarded him by coming out in 11 states to tell us what they think of gay marriage--and checking the Bush column while they were there. By the way, John, I'm certain that comment about waging a “sensitive” war on terror resonated with a couple sensitive girly men out there--but it didn't fly with the majority of Americans who, well, takes the terror war seriously. And while Jesse Jackson was busy wailing about the hands that picked cotton the Democrats once again failed to grasp that, yes, to win an election you need to (will they come to my house and kill me if I say it?) appeal to the white vote, the straight vote, and the male vote.

The problem with all this isn't necessarily that gays shouldn't have rights, or that the youth shouldn't be more politically aware. The problem is that there just aren't that many gays in America. There aren't even that many young people. And most of us really don't think that our Commander-in-Chief should act like a woman and teach our army to be more sensitive, and the only cotton we've ever seen was spun and dyed in Malaysia. You'll never attract the center by catering to the fringe. Now, previously in history when the battle was to enfranchise the female half of the population with the vote, or the quarter that was non-white with equal rights, and the rest of your base was still loyal because you'd actually done something for them recently, maybe this strategy made some sense: you could pick up new voters that would give you an edge. But the reality is that most voters now have pretty good civil rights, and America doesn't seem too concerned about the scant few who still have fewer rights than others.

Which is not such a bad thing. Seriously. Fellow liberals, relax, and take a deep breath, because we've done a good job. America is a free nation, and the spread of freedom, civil equality, and democracy throughout the world is mostly thanks to us. You might not be able to convince America that the transsexual rights movement is the next big thing. That's okay, because no population in human history has enjoyed freedoms that are better than ours. We're still fighting battles that we won decades ago, and in our fervor we've betrayed our roots: the Republicans now have more inclusive policies than we do! (They'll help you out no matter your race, color or creed--you just have to get rich.)

George Bush attended Yale University and proceeded to get an MBA from Harvard. Hillbilly? By your logic, he is not.

Correction, Al Gore failed out of divinity school at Vandy. But at least you're not calling Vandy a redneck school even though it is in Nashville.

Clinton and Gore's administration wasn't even really that liberal overall: balanced budgets, NAFTA, welfare reform, cutting the size of government.

I never called George Bush a hillbilly or insinuated that it was the 'Redneck south' that voted him into office. I might've thought that, but I wouldn't sling around blanket statements like that on here.

I never said he finished ;)

W00t for civilized discussion :p

Can you tell me 50% of the population is as educated?

You narrow it down to 1 person. Whats the population of those states? What is the average IQ of the "likely voters"?

Sure every state produces a star once in a while but the populous in "general" for the southern states is mostly just a bunch of god fearing brainwashed sheep.

Would be interesting to take 10 people from rural areas in each state and do a 10 question interview with them and find out their beliefs and why they voted for who they voted for.

You guys are the ones who have been throwing around such broad generalizations. Now you're backing off. That's more like it.

since bush won, it's the trailer trash and rednecks.. if kerry won it would have been the crackheads and the convicts. we're all a little guilty here.

A September 10, 2004 poll (less than 2 months before the election) still believe(d) that Iraq was involved in 9/11

I don't think many of these people voted for Kerry, since he's been critical of Iraq. And by the way, even if you think Kerry changed his stance, it's better to eventually realize that there were no weapons or connection than to still be walking around believing in that and the tooth fairy.

Hmm, sounds like someone wants to bring back poll tests. Weren't they part of Jim Crow laws?

Anyway, I see the southern part of the country as having the common sense to know that the only way to deal with terror is sheer ruthlessness and stubbornness. You sure aren't going to get that out of Kerry and Pretty Boy Edwards. I know we can get it from Bush and Cheney.

When Leno and Hannity do their "man on the street" interviews to show the stupidity of people where do they go?...... Yes, NY and LA.

I live in the south, we are far from stupid. Show me a city in the South where 50% of the people can't read. Now look at NY their illiteracy rate is pathetic.
