i am sort of glad because at least it shows that my buddy liked him for the music and not just because he was PVD...like a lot of people on this board.

Laushinameee, who is a PVD whore, told me once that PVD was always a hard techno/trance DJ. He told me that its apart of his German Techno roots. [He also disproved my theory that communists like Detroit Techno (inside joke :stongue: ) ] Laushinameee went on to say people misunderstand PVD because he's more than just his 'trancy' production work [i.e. reflections, global, Politics of Dance, etc.)

That said I stared to do some research on PVD and noticed in the late 90's his tracklists (available on TA) were really trancy and not really hard. I also noticed the hard phase come into existence in 2003. My research could be wrong though :D I wait PVD whore Laushinameee to correct any inaccuracies in my statements.

i could be wrong but I was pretty into PVD for a 4 year stretch, i also know that he plays a little different in Germany then he does here in the US, so maybe I liked the US version of PVD.

The "old" PVD would do things like take Andain - Beautiful Things (G&D Mix) and bump it up to 140bpm's. And his "techno"/techy part of his set would be something like Tomcraft - Brainwashed.

I liked when he added those elements to his sets...take you on a journey...housy, proggy, techy, trancey and bangin.

now its just banging tech to me.

your research

I've not noticed too many flaws in his mixing but having listened to him since late '02 I've got to say he's gone alot more techno than I can stand. I tried listening to his last set from Casino and utterly hated it. Too much beaty techyness for my taste.
Laushinameee
PvD has always had the techno element... thats what he started off playing, techno alongside a few more 'trancey' things. There were only a few people making the trancey things then, so it was majority techno. Listen to some of his 93/94 sets - sure for the time it was 'trancey', but its really far away from todays pansy armin style trance music.

I dont understand why people are thinking hes got more 'techy' in the past year, if im honest id say the opposite was true. He used to play far less epic 'trance' and a lot more things with an edge. (apart from in 99 when he was just totally e, blame the trance explosion in the UK for that one)

I hope hes going to expand the techier side of his style, he plays some great music & always has done, and a lot of people havent been exposed to that yet from him.

We don't always see eye to eye, but I agree with a lot of this statement. He is not more techy now. In fact he is way more hard or semi-hard (like NU-NRG and his own production) trance than anything else. His production reflects this as well. Listen to the remixes he made on Vorsprung Dyk Technic and you will hear a lot more acidy 303 sounds than you hear now. He still uses them a little bit, but they are not nearly as prominent.
