I've got a sore throat, shivers, and I'm freezing even though the temperature is currently is 25° Celsius (77° Fahrenheit) and I've just had a black hot strong cup of coffee that only Brazilians, Italians and Cubans would dare to drink. Conclusion: either I've got the flu or I have a rare deathly disease which is going to kill me within a couple of minutes.
Since I believe I've got the flu rather than the sever disease, I'm already taking some home medicine: honey, propolis and I'm soon going to tie some garlic to my neck, which seems to work as well (learned it from my gf's mother: the garlic is supposed to raise the temperature, and you end up creating a local fever, which seems to help against the viruses or whatever I've got down my throat).
Other than seeing a doctor rather than posting in a web forum (unless you're a teenage girl from Montana :D), what do usually do when you're mildly ill? |

Do you have a thermometer to check your temp? It's really dangerous to let it stay high for long periods it can cause brain damage, and judging from some of your posts you cannot afford this my friend :D
:haha:
no seriously though do you have some aspirin or something to break the fever if it gets high? k and chicken noodle soup is always good especially if your mommy makes it for you. |

I'm at work, by the way. I woke up feeling a bit woozy, but I thought I was just tired. heh. It doesn't seem serious so I'll wait to check whether it isn't as bad as it seems but, if it is, I'm going home earlier today :)
Oh, lemon juice is nice too. Specially with hot lemon juice with salt (obviously, you're not supposed to swallow, just rest it in your throat and spit afterwards).

Honey.
Will do two things, number on ewill coat and sooth the sore throat. Number two, will reduce any bacterial infection you may have, try to get your hands on Medi-Honey, its a particular type of honey that has above average antibacterial properties.
Either mix it with something, or eat it straight (not too much obviously). |

My mum always says that sleep and rest are often the best "medicine" for minor ailments such as the common cold or the flu, and she's a doctor!. You usually just have to wait it out and let your immune system do its work.
Hot drinks and soup are also nice, simply because they make you feel good and they soothe your throat. |

echinacea, zinc, vitamin c... lots of vitamins to help boost your immune system
hot tea w/ honey, chicken soup, spicy foods, oranges, saltine crackers
a small glass of brandy or other strong alcohol to sooth your throat
lots of rest and sleep... at least all of that seems to work for me |

Lira..
I ride out a cold, virus, or flu for 7-10 days treating the symptoms. For example, Sore throat, --> throat losenges, warm salt water gargles. Now if the sore throat is secondary to Posterior nasal drainage..then attack the drainage with nasal decongestant, something to dry the draining up.
Fever treat with antipyretic (tylenol etc..) keep cool u do not want to insulate a fever (bad move). Make sure to keep hydrated with plenty of water. If ya dont feel better then see ur physician for further evaluation and myabe a regiment of antibiotics.. |
