he's got a point thought.
it really isn't that hard. takes a few weeks to get the hang of beatmatching, and if you have good tastes, you're sets will be wicked. |

if you havent noticed, that article is more about the US then anyplace else,, talking about mainstream and some turntablism.
i dont think that 'journalist' knows anything about EDM, or the djs playing it, or the scene around it |

Good article -- I remember Ishkur calling what DJs did the musical equivelent of riding a bicycle.
Anyway, we aren't all lazy. I write music, spin and don't get paid, and try and constantly look for new things with do with music (remixing, effects, etc). |

Want a weird situation? Musicians who admire DJs and insist that these DJs deserve a lot of respect.
"It takes talent to DJ really well." Well it takes a strong sense of the appropriate and some imagination, which anyone dealing in arts and entertainment needs. Yes, musical talent...
...but ultimately, what you're doing with that talent is playing other people's records. The musical arrangement - nope you had nothing to do with it, Deejay. That phat bassline - nope, not yours. Not the drums, the synths, the vocals, those congas...sorry bub.
And the worst thing is, even though I've got a fine arts degree major in music and played keys, bass, guitar and drums in various bands, I used to say "The good DJs are really good at what they do." as if it's some exotic skill. That is, until I met enough DJs to see how it's all done.
Put it this way. Take the most respected DJ on earth and introduce him (assmume either gender) to someone who studied classical piano since the age of two. Let Sir Piano reckon and behold Sir Decks' smug sense of accomplishment. Know what Sir Piano will do?
He'll grab Sir Decks' head and slam it repeatedly into the strings in the back of the piano, then he'll smash the piano lid down on him a few times, and finally he'll stuff the rest of Sir Decks' body into the piano and sent it rolling off the stage into the orchestra pit. |

| being a straight-cut dj (the average to40 dj) that just fades is easy, but to mix techno or something like that, is hard |
