Anyone buy a new dvd and then five months later they come out with a better one? With tons of features and ?

Argh.

Like Colombia:

This is going to be the fourth dvd of this I purchase (I own the theatrical, uncut, and superbit uncut).

This will be the third dvd I purchase of this (one normal, the other superbit, now this).

Released: 11th January 2005

Further Details
Arriving early next year in two-disc special edition form will be The Fifth Element starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich, and Leon which stars Jean Reno and Natalie Portman. Both will be available to own from the 11th January for around $24.96 each. The Fifth Element will receive a high definition anamorphic widescreen transfer along with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS tracks. Extras will include a Star Element featurette, a Visual Element featurette, a Digital Element featurette, an Alien Element featurette and a Fashion Element featurette. Completing the set will be camera, costume and set tests, a feature length fact track and more. The special edition of Leon will also include a wealth of new extra material, along with the unrated international version of the movie in a Superbit™ presentation. Extras will include a new ten year reunion featurette entitled The Professional, a Trial by Fire: Natalie Portman As Mathilda featurette, a full length Leon fact track, a Birth of a Star: Jean Reno As Leon featurette and more.

I just grabbed the new Shawshank Redemption anniversary DVD, also the Goodfellas anniversary DVD. They think we're rich.

I guess they know we're sucker's and will buy them =p. , they can come out with Leon 10 year and 5 months anniversary w/ new feature's and and I'd probably still buy it lol.

The Leon dvd artwork looks great. The Fifth Element not so, but I'll probably still end up grabbing it.

Now I'm waiting for the new Heat anniversary / Donnie Darko's DC.

Yeah, I was one of those "smart" people who waited a few extra months to buy the LotR movies on DVD with the extended crap. Yay, 4 discs...I'll only watch 2 of them because they couldn't fit the whole movie onto 1...

:happy2:

Can't wait for Return of the King to come out in it's Extended edition this December...of course, once they are finished releasing the normal extended editions, we get the LORD OF THE RINGS: PLATINUM GOLD SUPERBIT TERRIFIC HAPPY FUN TIME ULTRA-EXTENDED EDITION WITH 5 MINUTES OF EXTRA SCENES!!!!

yay, kapitalism

:wtf:

Wow, what a clever scam. Really, it must have taken months of intense investigatory work to uncover this conspiracy. Blasted movie companies and their ability to trick my simple mind.

yeah, cos thats JUST what those movies needed, an extra 40 minutes or whatever.

No way they were long enough as it was...........

Some movies are worth it.. especially the ones released from Criterion. I have M on DVD but Criterion is re-releasing it with new features and I'm thinking about picking it up.

lol exactly.

Sad thing is people realy wanted the extra 40 mins :x.

Yea but I understand if you really love the movie then you'll probably want more, but most of the time with Director Cut's & etc I always get used to theatrical. The DC's are like, meh.

Nope. I don't buy dvds...dunno why. Well I do, but I only get the movies I really really like, and those don't come out too often. And even then I usually only want to see the movie itself, not necessarily commentary or new scenes or whatever (except something like Donnie Darko, which is a very rare exception).

So eh, I guess I'm not a big enough movie consumer to want to keep buying the new versions.

What I don't like is special editions with bonus features that bring the price up to about £20, and because of them it becomes hard to find the normal release.

I don't want 1 or 2 discs worh of cast filmographies, essays on the film, 2 different commentaries, 10 cast interviews, 4 scenes that were deleted because they were crap, 7 trailers from a variety of different countries and multiple angles from every corner of the room, all packaged in a fancy cardboard box, I just wanna watch the ing movie.
hyped_Lp
yeah I hate it when they do that. I hardly ever buy any dvds because there will probably be a better version released in who knows when.
and they wonder why people donwload the . :)

TigerClaw
That always baffles me, How they came up with better versions of DVD movies after the originals were release, I mean, DVD was suposed to be the ultimate media, Where you can watch all sorts of delete scenes, Extended versions of movies and such, Why do they take forever to put those out?, Its like how they are doing with the Lord Of The Ring DVDs, They release the theatrical versions on DVD, Then a few months later, They come out with the Special Extended DVD Edition, Why cant they just put all that in one package instead of having to wait that long?
XaNaX
Well, since they are ing you why dont you them right back and just rent it at Blockbuster and copy the thing?

Note: This is a hypothetical question, not an endorsement of DVD piracy ;)
