Well, I think if they keep a similar storyline, we know that the plot is completely awesome.
Visually, I can't imagine that it will be anything less than unbelievable.
And of course Mr. Depp + Mr. Burton = complete and utter bad-assness.
The only thing I see as a negative is the possibility of this:
Creepy! :nervous: |

plot of the original from imdb
| quote: | | Charlie Bucket, a poor boy who is barely able to support his family, is fortunate to be chosen as one of the 5 people to go inside the most popular and powerful chocalate factory in the world: The Willy Wonka Chocalate Factory. But a stranger, named Arthur Slugworth, tempts the kids to steal a piece of candy and give it to him. In exchange, he will make them rich. Willy Wonka, played by Gene Wilder, soon introduces them to the factory, and starts the grand tour around the factory. Once inside, the 5 winners start to run amuck. One by one, the 5 kids start to disappear, until it is only Charlie that remains. At this point, Wonka starts to ignore Charlie, and then tells him why: because Charlie and Grandpa Joe, played by Jack Albertson, drank some forbidden product without permission. Will Charlie turn against Wonka? Or will he discover that he was wrong and make up what he has done? |
can anyone explain what makes this a cult movie? what valuable info was omitted in here? |

I have always loved the original movie, and have wanted to do a research paper on it for quite some time.
Halcyon's Theory:
'Willy Wonka' is actually a metaphor for God - Slugworth being a satanic figure employed by Wonka to tempt the children (mankind) with dreams of riches, but only if they betray what they hold to be true and decent.
The Oompah-Loompahs are Wonka's Guardians and caretakers for his chocolate factory. Angels are God's guardians and caretakers of Heaven.
I'm sure there's some really specific bibilical symbolism in the movie, especially the scene when they're on the boat (what's up with that? Weird, 'revelations' going on :nervous: ). Maybe Violet is actually a metaphor for Lot's Wife? :stongue:
This new movie will kick major ass, I'm sure. Depp + Burton = impossible to disappoint. :happy2: |

It is not a movie about a cult, rather a movie that had a 'cult following.' |

Well, is it guaranteed to be a dark movie? I know Burton can come up with some really cool dark stuff, but I didn't think Big Fish was all that dark of a movie. Maybe he's more of a flexible director than people give him credit for?
Genius though...:D |
