It is not a movie about a cult, rather a movie that had a 'cult following.'

Not really THAT big of a cult classic in comparison to the other two.

I love Johnny Depp, but I just cannot picture him in this role. Gene Wilder will always hold the role of Wonka in my eyes, so while it may be a good movie (Tim Burton can't disappoint), it won't hold a candle to the original.

it shall be sick; i've been looking forward to this for a while.

word. the author orginally said that the first movie was nothing like his novel nor what he tried to depict. I think i remember the author saying that Willy Wonka was never suppose to be all cheery and happy. Hence, the new Willy Wonka played by Depp.

I dont think it will top the original, but a version closer to the events in the books is a real plus. I agree that Wonka was not supposed to be such a happy character, but rather a dark, brooding figure seperate from our world entirely. Something more (subjectively) interesting would've been for them to make then second book of this "series", Willy Wonka and the Great Glass Elevator, instead of the original. Especially given the recent events pushing the privatization of space travel, this couldve tied in quite neatly with modern events.

Nonetheless, Im really looking forward to this film. This is probably the first movie I've been interested in seeing in quite a long time. It is certainly curious as to who they will target with this film: Children? Adolescents? Adults? If the third option is true, I think it will be a very good film indeed...

I gota say I'm a big fan of Depp, he will not dissapoint, if it was gonna be crap in any way, he wouldn't of taken this script, and as for not being able to picture him in this film, look at all the other films hes done, could you really of pictured him doing those?
