What to get my "girlfriend" for her birthday?

Well I debated asking this because the maturity level on TA has been anything but stellar the past few months, but I'm hoping I can get some genuine responses to the question....
I've been dating this girl for a month or so and I really have no idea what to get her for her birthday... I don't think it should be anything too extravagent as that may be a bit odd. What would you recommend as a good birthday gift for someone you have been going out with for 5-6 weeks?
I know she likes animals a lot, and clothes/shoes, and music (not trance that much though :( ). I was going to get her a gift certificate to Sephora (sp?) because I know she needed a new perfume but a) she needed one immediately (and her b-day isn't until nov. 23rd) and b) she bought one today but she's not sure if she'll keep it and c) i thought that may be a boring gift?
Cheers,

if you want to stick to the gift certificate idea, you could always get her a gift card for a salon/spa so she can get a haircut/manicure/massage/etc... although i usually tend to think gift cards are a bit impersonal.
maybe try shopping at some unique stores rather than your typical mall stores, you might end up finding something really original, maybe a bit odd, but i find that stuff like that makes the best gifts for someone special. plus it shows you think outside the box. (i plan on doing all my xmas shopping this way, my goal is to not step inside a mall once!)
i don't really know much about her, but here are some other ideas that basically any girl might like:
- a nice fleece or down throw (esp with the cold weather coming)
- candles (i know, typical... but every girl likes candles)
- a stuffed animal, maybe even a customized one from the Build-A-Bear workshop
eh i'm running out of ideas. i can't think when i force myself to. but i'm sure you'll think of something, and you can take her out for a nice romantic dinner as well. |

all great ideas, thanks guys... please keep them coming.
i was also thinking of the stuffed animal as well because as i mentioned she really likes animals (and she's pre-med studying to be a vet)... i know she has a golden retriever so maybe a stuffed one of them? hmmm...where can i find a nice stuffed animal store in nyc? perhaps toys r us in times square?
keep the suggestions coming... :)

one of those super squishy pillow thingys from brookstone,.. i got one for my sister last xmas and she said its one of the best presents ive ever given her,...
get her a bag of like 10 individually wrapped presents,.. and have each of them be stupid like skittles, a note pad, cheetoes, gas-x (as a joke), hot pockets..etc.. and you could have a nice necklace or some other form of jewlery at the bottom after she opened all the little doo dads first... |
