So I'm still waiting to hear how you've managed to tie together personal views to a greater group (in this case, nationality) |

Voted bush, huh? |
He took it seriously because you responded to his own generalization with a generalization of your own. Or maybe you didn't see that? It's ok, not everybody has the ability to see their own faults. You'll grow into a more mature person...eventually.
And eh....you managed to garner his political views from that one post despite the fact that his signature says the opposite? |

Always ask 10% more than what they're offering. Chances are that if they have enough money for your salary, they'll have 10% more.
Ask to have a salary review in 6 months based on your performances.
Good luck. |

this can be true in a lot of cases but if you are already on the path to working a corporate job, you have to work the system and counter-offering for higher salary is a standard part of that. sometimes you have the play the game to get the most out of the system. |

congratulations d00d .. you should be very blessed to find a job that falls aligned to the career you want in this job-strapped time right now.. especially at your age, this is a good start off career for you. now as for wage wise, it all depends on what they are asking..
if you feel they are asking too low, then you can always ask for something more. probably a good start off range would be around the $15 to $20 an hour range for beginners (well depending on the job market and city economy, but that is considered good around here in new orleans. you would live like a king with that wage).
if you feel you can gain a lot of experience with this job, take it. it will help you in the long run (of course, no one has to tell you that.. hahaa). if u feel that you are going to be low-balled in terms of job experience, and doing nothing but mail runs and coffee pickups, then you will have to make a decision if you want to wait a couple of more months to find a better job, or stick it out with this job for a couple of months while you find something else.
and to kamil .. you dumba*s .. you think america is nothing but money grubbing fools .. you just have this dumb preceived notion that america is full of greed and deception.. it may seem that way with the dumb big businesses showing their faces everywhere and waving their d!*ks in front of the whole world .. well, you know what dude? that's the whole thing of big business damn it! .. that's how we make money ..
with growing business, the broad customer range, the ordeals of having to balance supply and demand, and profit margins. i see that you are from europe, so you probably do not know that the value of the euro is starting to increase, while the value of the dollar is on the decline. business experts are saying that businesses are now considering moving some corporate offices to europe, because of the change in economy. they could move to asia, but the japan nikkei market is rebounding from a heavy decline, and china's market has been off and on .. never consistent. i don't know why you complain about america money. everyone has an obsession with money, |

WTF is you problem LOSER? first you exhibit so much anti-American sentiment in all your posts here, not to mention, you thread-jack.
as far as that offer goes, i was actually angry, hence i had to post about it here. if you guys actually knew how much money this goon was offering me for the work he wanted me to do, its ridiculously low... and to think the assumed i'd take it on the spot makes me even more mad.
i'm not gonna counteroffer. the offer is so low that there's no room for negotiations, and i'm gonna make sure i let him know that. we discussed salary at our interview, and thought we were on the same page. until he scraped the sand off the bottom of the barrel and handed it to me.
thanks to all for their advice, though after thinking hard, i know i can make a salary 2.5x to 2x this somewhere else.
:)
