stripped down dance?

I was at MYnt last night (miami beach) and the dj was playing this awesome mix of what sounded like stripped down hard dance music, it def. wasnt house or trance. it was beat driven and had alot of the clicks and pops and guitar bits, but that was it. there was a lot of distortion, in fact, the music was more about taking a sound and altering it with distortion and effects rather than creating a melody, and adding a beat to that. it seemed very experimental. does anyone know what genre this would fall into (electro?)? i know my description is vague. also, is there a dictionary of music terms so i can describe better what im trying to say?
thanks;)

I don't know...microhouse? Lol. Go to www.di.fm/edmguide and listen to the House > Microhouse samples to see if that's what it is.

It's minimal techno.

Stripped down dance is exactly how minimal is described. It allows for much more use of sampling and effect.

Tunes like this perhaps
