Power 106 & James Brown Is Dead are responsible for getting me into the EDM scene. The early rave scene kicked ass!!!! But EDM has never been so good until now - IMO. :eyespop:

When I was a kid a friend of mine's older brother use to play Kraftwerk - Man Machine - Robots - and I thought that was the coolest song.

i started out with eurodance...going to some partied and hearing eifel 65-blue, moloko-sing it back, mojo-lady and then i heard delerium-silence(tiesto mix) so i got into tiesto and more into trance and now that is all i listen too...

for me it was mr. wayne and ....damn i forgot te names...rhtythm is a dancer, ....aarrghhh..so frustrating...twilight zone...aaahhh screw it..runaway...forgetting one...
then there was children, bt - flaming june, gouryella, cafe del mar, faor an angel...
the first set i heard was paul oakenfold live from home @ space in ibiza...will never forget pete tong saying those words...

im all for hip hop grinding and chickies backing that ass up but these EDM haters will never know the different moods a good set can take you through..dancing when u think ure gonna die if u take another step...they'll never understand them and i pity them for that...the loss..

let me recount my 1st happenings with EDM. it was junior high, my dad was taking me to school and i was flipping through the radio...alas i stop on 103.1 (then groove radio) i thought...man whatever this stuff is its cool! so i would listen to groove radio every now and then but was never sure of the names of artists/djs whatever...just listened to the music. then high school came around and i was a really really big hip hop head, all i would listen to was hip hop. then someone gave me the eiffel 65 cd, and i was like "holy i used to listen to this 'stuff' in junior high...i LOVE this". and thats when it began. a friend of mine told me something about paul oakenfold, not sure what it was but that name stuck out...so i downloaded something from him. The Essential Mix in 1999 from Shanghai, China...it changed my ing life. ever since then all i listen to is EDM. this genre can express so many feelings and emotions without using words, and thats what i love about it. the fact that an entire room/club full of people can dance to the same song and feel the music and all that...its beautiful.

That's somewhat along the lines of what happened to me.

James Brown Is Dead! What a classic. Along with other early 90s songs like:

Sesame Street Smart E's
SpeedRacer AlphaTeam
Papua New Guinea FSOL

They sound dated now, but I still like them, & they got me into techno.

haha man, you're forgetting DJ Mystik, he came to us before we even heard oakie's set....also hypnotika.org with all it's underground asian djs (most of which sucked) but dj mystik stuck out, he had like 30 mix albums i think, i still have all of them sitting on streamload somewhere...that's where i first heard for an angel, greece 2000, and cafe del mar....ever since then i was hooked...and then a guy on that site recommended that i get the oakie set, and the paul van dyk set "live @ home in london" fawk!!!! that was a crazy ass set, the both used one of my favorite songs..."dj remy - pumped up" i even remember paul van dyk playing what is now considered one of the cheesiest songs of all time...anyone remember it? "darude - sandstorm" i remember we would go nuts to that song, heck even KIIS fm used to play in late at night.

bas, you remember how sick we got of that song when we went to bakersfield for that one car show with the drag strip. we would be sitting in the bleachers and the one sound booth behind us would constantly be blasting that same stupid song over and over and over again............aah.......the memories!!!!!

oh btw, i was surprised you remembered my name julia, considering we haven't seen each other in ages...how's canadia treating you?
