What made you choose edm over other genres of music? (pg. 2)

I chose edm for a variety of reasons over other genres.
Some of these include:
I enjoy going out, and going to raves and dance parties. I fit in much better with similar minded people and feel out of place at rock events with people with limited vocabulary and black t-shirts.
I also like to dance, in fact I love to dance, and this is the best music in the world to dance to. Rock music and other genres can allow people with no co-ordination to simply shake their head, jump up and down, and act like complete dicks on the dancefloor.
R&B music, and similar rap and urban varieties seem to attract people that think they are something they are not, and along with stupid clothes, this seems more about ego than having a good night. Idiots on a stage talking about how good they are doesn't do anything for me either.
The variety of edm is also a major attraction for me. You go see a rock band and you know the songs they will play. With edm no two nights are ever the same, and some tracks can make you feel like dancing like crazy, some can make you feel in love and some can make you feel like being yourself.
I love the smell of vinyl. I love the lights at dance events. I love people on drugs compared to those that drink alcohol, more love less hate. |

Ditto... if I had a choice I'd probably choose anything but, since I've never had any friends into it and I've probably lost out on a large element of social life because of it. But alas, it agreed with me the most, christ knows why. |

| Grooveradio in LA got me started. Tracks like, Robert Miles - Dreamland, and Olive - You're not alone.. not to mention a PVD set on MOS Radio. I really can't describe the feeling the music can give me, it just makes things better if somewhere around the corner, there's a quality peice of music waiting for me. |

Thats funny cos I used to live there when it started and when it died. On the day it died (98 i think), they just kept playing one track over and over. Funny I can't remember what it was but I was like WTF. And I totally remember Olive. I just had a memory rush.:D

It would be easier to say why I started writing with my right hand...
Nah seriously, I started listening through a friend in school who was into Happy Hardcore, DnB, Hardstyle, etc... and one day he brought in a Hard Trance CD, and I liked this much more. But I only started getting into Trance when I heard the PVD essential mix from '97(replayed on Galaxy 101). After hearing this, I would listen to as much trance as I could, always recording the Essential Selection's from Pete Tong and Judge Jules, sifting through and making lists of the songs I liked.
Around this time we started to go clubbing regularly at Escape in Swansea and I never looked back. |

That would be a big PLUS ONE for me...although I still listen to all sorts of other music...just EDM most of the time... |

| I started listening to some old school hardcore when i was about 10-11 years old , i got hooked on the old sh-101 synth sound and the high pitched vocals ,that led me to hardcore and happy hardcore and then to drum 'n bass , i had'nt really liked trance that much untill i heard rank1 - airwave and flutlicht - mutterkorn , after that there was no turning back. |

megaword, you just can't go mental in the same way to any other form of music!
i went out with my brother to a club in nottingham to see paul van dyk when i was 15 (lol), i wasn't into the music at that time but i certainly enjoyed myself! at the time, i was madly into my hip-hop. i was a massive fan of people like the roots, big L, wu-tang (this was before they turned to donkey ) blah blah.. but the whole hip-hop scene went down the pan, it all started getting boring and commercialised, it was not what hip-hop was supposed to be about anymore. so with an open mind, i looked about for new music, and happened upon trance and house music, as my mates brother used to go out clubbing. so i borrowed one of his cd's and its all spiralled from there really.
now i hardly listen to anything else (except ridiculous music a la lardchops, and 80's stuff for a laugh), techno has taken over my life, as has DJing and for a time production (which i will hopefully be getting back in to soon when my circumstances change). it has now got to a stage where this music has cost me a -load of money in equipment and vinyl (probably totalling somewhere in the region of £5000-6000).
is it worth it? yes it is!! |

what got me into edm music? energy 52 - cafe del mar
Part from that, Ive always found edm to be the most interesting form of music. Have always enjoyed clubbing and raves, and the whole atmosphere that comes along with it. |
