I dunno, I personally think rap as a genre is in the ter right now. Basically the evolution of rap is:

Birth of rap - 1988: This was the 'I'm a much better rapper than you" phase where one rapper was dissing another based on rapping skills.

1988 - 1997: The rise of gangsta rap. While this phase started out strong, it quickly ended up as a bunch of pretend studio gangstas. By 1997 this phase of the genre was played out and the deaths of Biggie and Tupac were the nails in the coffin. I'm no huge rap fan, but in my opinion, the best rap was done in the gangsta rap phase.

1997 - Present: The 'I've got more cash, cars, homes, bitches, bling, etc than you' phase. IMHO, this is the lamest phase of all. The tracks sound alike and all the tracks are about the same thing. there are 1000 cookie cutter rap artists out there all doing the same . I mean how many ways can you rap about the fact that you have 50 cars and they all got chrome wheels before people get tired of it.

a ing mockery to real ARTISTS, who spends their ENTIRE lives playing with an actual instrument and perfecting technical skills, and reinventing sounds and lyrics which they write with non-repetitive MEANING.

Anyone who calls p-diddy or eminem an "artist" is a ing DOLT.

The morons cant even put a single in thought into their words. Eminmen cant read music, let alone english, he failed that class THREE TIMES in high school, and people are giving him CREDIT?

The amount of bitches, weed, guns, hoes, and DEVALUED FERRARIS (serioulsy, rappers make exotic cars look BAD) are getting LAME. LAME. AND LAME.

I give credit where credit is due, artists and bands such as matthew good, coldplay, mettalica (sp?), singers (REAL ONES) such as sarah mclachlan, vanessa carlton (who plays piano like an 8th wonder), and multiTALENTED music gurus like BT.....

...DESERVE THE CREDIT. NOT RAPPERS.:whip:

rap, its fashion style, and all of those idiots who promote a ghetto lifestyle.

For all you rap haters, your gonna LOVE this:

My god, this is hilarious. First you compare P-Diddy to Eminem, and then you go on to say that GOOD ARTISTS like COLDPLAY deserve more credit than rappers. You sir, should be a comedian. I'm sure your rants will be very succesful in that department, since you portray the mentality of a rabid 14 year old so well with them.

You're right about mainstream hiphop being quite though, but that's hardly anything new.

You really don't know much about the genre. If you don't enjoy the music, just say so, but your uninformed rants are just painful to read.

As stated earlier, using "P Diddy" and Eminem in the same comparison is laughible. P Diddy is a joke. Eminem, on the other hand, has probobly the best pure rapping tallent. His lyrics may be off in content lately, yes... and his singles may be getting progressively worse to attract a larger fanbase, yes... but what artist doesn't do this? The bulk of his is still good, and his previous albums will be remembered among some of the greatest hip hop ever.

Also, about spending time practicing an instrument... you will never find people practicing anything as much as rappers practice rhymes. They do it wherever they go. Even people who dream someday of doing something with rap, are continuously freestyling. No guitarist could do this. They can't play their guitar while they work their ty job, but a rapper is forever working things out in their head. Think freestyling is easy? I dare you to get a beat going in front of some of your friends and see if you can bust anything out of any real quality in front of them. More than likely you will be the one who is the dolt.

Yea, I was listening to a Sean Paul song, Get Busy. Which I actually like that Sean Paul type stuff, not exactly Rap, but it is still... anyway I think it's good.

Not a few months later, I hear a new song, not by Sean Paul, and not even a remix of "Get Busy", useing the EXACT SAME semi-complex bongo percs (obviously kick and snare can't be toooo original, so it's easy to recreate the same kick/snare pattern over and over again), it was like Sean Paul and this other group downloaded the same loop.

It made me sad. Either way, the majority of rap isn't my thing, but I dunno I like some of it, just in small doses.

Besides, who the are you to decide what is 'good music' and 'bad music', cause as far as im concerned the only music i find to be bad is like lil jon.
Dont bash hip hop cause your brain is too fried to comprehend what they are actually saying.
