Laptop Question: PC vs. Apple?
View this Thread in Original format

I'm considering buying a laptop, but I don't know whether to buy a PC or an Apple (and in the case of an Apple, an iBook or a Powerbook).

Bearing in mind I'm a student, so you can pretty much guess what I'll be using it for. Eventually, I would also like to use Final Scratch and produce music on it too.

Any thoughts?

It doesn't get any better than using a Apple PC or notebook man ;)

you can do word processing on a MAC so u might as well get that , then again how long do you plan to wait until you start producing music ? cuz by then u might consider getting a new computer .. so in that case you might as well just get a PC now

By the time I get a laptop, I will be ready to start playing around with production. I probably won't be using final scratch for a while after I get my laptop though ($$$ :D ).

Depends what you'll be doing with it I guess. I have a PC notebook and I do primarily because I need a PC one for school (programming and ...) but I am 99% sure I'll be getting a powerbook soon ;)

Get a PC, man. Maybe if you're *really* advanced in the production arena a Powerbook will be more useful, but that's gonna be years down the road no matter how prodigal you are, and all the software you'll need until then is available on PC (i.e. Reason).

Macs are a waste of time, they're impossible to manage because they treat you like a naughty child. OS X was a step in the right direction, no doubt, but they still need to drop their prices by about 50% before they can get taken seriously. It's difficult to manage the system, very difficult to change the hardware, and on the off-chance that you want to run any mainstream software like a game, you may find it completely impossible. Their system isn't even that stable, if you want a stable system then run BSD or Linux on a PC.

Please, don't waste your money on a Mac.

Consider this, you can buy two decent PC laptops for the price of one Mac.

If you plan on running Final Cut Pro and Photoshop (heavily) then get the Mac.
