everyone is calling trance cheese these days so they move on to listening to prog trance to disassociate themselves from it. they think prog trance is so different than trance because of the prog prefix. well sorry to break it in for you but prog trance is simply just trance. trance takes different direction and evolves over some period of times and it keeps pushing new boundries. and thats why todays trance doesnt have the boring formulaic 2 breakdowns and the annoying cheesey claps and pop vocals. and thats why people start calling it prog trance because those elements are eliminated. but its not true. this is the genre's self transition into something new borrowing lot of musical ideas from other electronic genres. the 2 breakdown trance was part of the evolovement too i think. it transformed itself into that form back in the late 90s where there was quality sytuff coming out with those elements. then after a few years it got tired plodding dull whatever you wanna call it. new artists rose up and started experimenting to add different electronic aspects into trance there for creating different form of trance. today's trance borrows alot from the progressive house gnere but imo its not prog trance just trance.
trance just branched itself away from the 2 breakdown cookie cutter trance that got so commercialised over the couple of years and went underground. thats why this trance that is made right now seems so progressive because it aint overcommercialised and its underground.
thats why most people call this prog trance.

It's called a "sub-genre." You may also have heard of Hard Trance, Tech Trance, etc., and might be so inclined to make topics for them, as well. And you owe me thirty seconds for the time it took me to read that.

Or they could just be listening to prog when they say prog. I doubt prog artists would label their work as being trance.

i think there is a difference from say what Above & Beyond play and then someone like Markus Schulz
i would say what Above & Beyond play is what people would call trance and what Markus plays is what people would consider progressive trance...i think there is quite a difference |

True, but what I think he is referring to is that both A&B's style and Markus' style are different sub-genres of the same genre, and people are getting confused by trying to say that Progressive Trance isn't Trance.
Though, I beg to differ with him; most know that it is a sub-genre. |
