Luke - "is trance still trance?"
Yoda - "Ooooh. Good question young jedi..."
I'm listening to Amp Radio Classic 6 Hour Special on 2HP.ca Radio- which is full of trance from days gone by (2002 and earlier).
Good question loosely based on a comment that Jon Jon made a week or so ago:
Trance today doesn't really sound all that trancey.
Yes yes, I understand the evolution of a sound, etc - however listening to these tracks and comparing to what is being put out today - I have to conclude that very little trance is actually being produced today.
I'm still rasslin' with what exactly the current sound is and how it should be defined - but it's less and less "trance" as time has gone by.

True... trance these days is either proggy or techy but I ain't complaining because that's the way I like it.
So is this the end of TranceAddict? |

For the most part, there seems to be less of a journey, more immediate impact.
If that makes any sense. |

hah Jon Jon, love it.
Trance still exists, Tiesto, PVD, etc etc etc. That is trance man. Even that new Oakie Creamfields disk, there are some serious synths in there.
I think I was saying less that trance is dead, more that prog is in a beautiful place at the moment. (I kept making reference to "the big sound" at the moment) I think Prog has finally turned into a sound that could destroy the mainstream. A perfect formula of grimmy yet much more danceable and upbeat.
techno + electro = le sound dujour
Don't believe me?

Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For (Jacques Lu Cont remix)
Mylo - Drop The Pressure (Felix da Housecate remix)
If those songs don't make you your pants, you have problems. I got tired of trance, end of story. |

maybe the trance of today is what trance Really is, and the trance from yester-years was in fact the humble beginnings of it. What I mean is, maybe now trance has actually grown into the sound it always should have been...?

| Trance is still the same like yester years if one can manage to get their hands on good productions....the difference today is the amount of trance being produced which is affecting the quality of productions and the classification of evrything being produced as trance ....if u go back a few years almost evry trance labelled track that came out was a pure trance production and would take u on journey even if ur not high :haha: ...good solid trance that deserves to be played in a set or given a second listen is hard to find these days imo.... |

if thats the case i am glad after the evolution of trance i have stopped listening to trance...."the beginning of trance"...as you have put it, i find to be more trance then today...back before 2002 trance was a lot more euphoric... |

to me, proper trance is what oaky was playing mostly
back in his hey-day - 98ish or so.
now what we call trance i'd associate with above & beyond's sound |
