Yes, it's an excuse to escape to realism that the world has to offer. Many people (probably more than the French would hope) actually do reflect on what they're thankful for on this day - I think it's damn important for people to dedicate at least one day a year to think about how much happiness is in their lives. Unfortunately, the eating of a turkey has been associated by those who cannot understand the meaning of our day, as it is so displayed in the media as a tacit tradition and so shunned by "intellectuals" in that regard. It's really too bad that people must immediately think that, for Americans, it's just a day to eat a lot when, in all actuality, each person is truly thinking about what there is to be thankful for on this day. What the media presents is, as usual, just a dim reflection of reality. So don't judge thanksgiving by what has been presented to you through a camera and a commercial, for thanksgiving is a helluva lot more than that for those who actually live it.

that's what americans are supposed to be doing, but it's bullcrap.

thats like saying everyone thinks about jesus christ on christmas day, absolute bollocks. majority of people (including myself) really only think about what overpriced presents i've just been given.

americans can use the excuse you just used to justify why they should cram there faces full of calories for an entire day and not go into work, when if the truth be told, they're sucomming to glutony. if the day was all about thanksgiving, go say a prayer to the lord.

anyway, get that stomach stretching started before christmas comes around. t'is the season to be fat and jolly.

Pathetic, you have an entire world to be thankful for and all you can come with are a few mentions of music, drugs and this forum.
rich sheltered americans.
and regardless of your monetary income in relation to the rest of the american society; your minimum wage paycheck would feed at least 10 people for a week in a third world country.
what exactly are you thankful for? what i see is that you are thankful to live this bourgoise lifestyle, doing what you wish whenever you wish, just because you can and need to fear no reprisal for your actions. all the while your country destroys families and homes in the name of freedom.
what a great time to celebrate and to be alive.

Cost of living is alot higher here. I wouldnt argue that we dont live with ridiculous amounts of amenitites (cable tv, cell phones, and cars full of gas), but dont try to pin one attitude or style of thinking on the entire population.

Were not the only ones who support American culture. How many people eat at American fast food chains world wide? How many purchase our company's clothing, buy gasoline from our companies? How many work in factories and manufacturing centers for our companies? How many waste their money on our movies our music? How about the computer you're using; is it made with parts (soft or hardware) from American companies? Then you people want to turn around and point the finger at us? We as citizens are to blame, but so are millions of people worldwide who financially support the machine. If you live a clean and uninvolved lifestyle, its differnet, but if you put one penny into the monster, then youre unable to complain, as far as Im concerned.

just my two cents, since you felt compelled to give yours :D

i don't see why you can't be thankful for stuff every day like the rest of the world.. :p;)

and nell is right, i doubt there will be that many people giving thanks.. its the same asituation as christmas, and christmas is supposed to be a religious time and i am one of the least religious people on earth, yet i always 'celebrate' xmas just for the sake of the big dinner etc etc.
