Advice Needed on DJing Tables and Mixers

Ok, I'm in the market for a couple tables and a mixer. After being on one of my buddy's tables and mixers for the balance of the last year, and I've been thinking about it for at least 2, I've decided it's a worthwhile investment. My question is pertaining to models of mixers and tables. My shopping has told lead me to the conclusion that often times when it comes to mixers and tables that you'll pay a premium for the name brand.

With my mixer, I was thinking of investing in a Vestax PCV-275, a basic 3 channel, 3 band rotary EQ mixer with kills on each band. Knowing that vestax makes good faders [my buddy's mixer is a scratch mixer made by vestax] this was my first choice, but as it went a little out of my price range for a used one, I was thinking about a Numark DXM06. It has a simple FX mixer buildt in, only 2 channels, but also has the kill switches. My question is, is it really worth the extra $100-$150 to get the Vestax? I really don't need the FX mixer on there to start, and I know the vestax would give me the ability to add a quality FX mixer when/if necessary without changing my mixer.

With tables, I know the tech 1200/1210's are industry standard, but those can also be costly. I looked into other tables, and I found that the vestax PDX-2000 series of table to be cheaper with better features as well. The pitch control being more sensitive and the torque on the platter being higher. My question about tables is, is the difference in torque significant enough such that if I'm constantly using the vestax tables that playing out on a technics table it'll reak haavoc with my cueing abilities? And second, is the difference in the quality of build great enough to make a tech 1200 more appealing?

Thanks for the help in advance....

Turntable: Expect to get 50% to 30% of retail on the turntables unless you get Technics. Whatever you do get high-torque direct drive (no belt). Pick up some good carts/needles - that is what will give you sound quality. Only use the +/- 8% pitch (as that is what the techs have).

Mixer: Vestax 275 is a great mixer. Good choice.

I know direct drive is essential, but I'd been doing a lot of reading and this vestax table is supposidly superior to the tech 12, but tech 12's are well known for their rediculous durability. So I still need to know if
1. the durability is so superior for the tech 12, that it's automatically more worthy of buying
2. the vestax isn't so superior in quality that I'll be useless as a DJ if i play out on tech 12's.

I wrote a long response, then froze up and lost it.

it said (consise version):

- unless you beat your decks you will get the most resale for technics. i see people having trouble selling anything but technics (or the ttx1s). Saving $250 now, will probably cost you $400 later. try to buy used technics.

- if you are good at adjusting easily - then the higher torque/different pitch will be no problem. personally, I have trouble adjusting to new mixers, let alone new tables. hell, i even find variance between different 1200s (maybe it is just in my mind, i dunno).

- high torque is good, but closer to tech12 torque is better.

Whats a good price for a Numark CM200 mixer?
Sly_Guy
no idea, I've only been checking out turntables, as I have a stack of vinyls here I cart to other people's houses.

Yes...but I wouldn't get a rotary. Most club mixers you'll play on are channel mixers.

If you want to play out, get 1200's. The industry standard is not changing anytime soon.

AFAIK I've never seen a rotary 275. I know you can buy a rotary conversion for the PCV faders - but I don't think the 275 comes rotary from the factory.

Edit: Vestax DFK-275 Rotary Fader Kit for PCV-275 is $159! Yikes!

"3 band rotary EQ" - might have been referring to the EQ knobbies. I dunno.

I've never played on rotary - would be interesting to try it out though.
