The MClass Compressor features a sidechain input for advanced compression tricks such as ducking or de-essing, a soft-knee mode for smooth, musical compression and CV out for dynamically controlling other Reason devices.

YAY! :D

But the combinator is a new synth. Kinda.

exactly.. you can go and make your 8080 cloan.. in combinator, save it.. and then open it as a patch in any song you want.. really you've now got an endless oscillator synths.. this is a big thing i recon..

also.. $130 isn't really a ball breaker now is it?

refils can contain patches for the synths, patches for the reDrum (also each indivual drum sample as a sample) and samples :D

It also says, Hardware recording or something like that..

does this mean i can buy a Virus in the future and use it with it?

Well,

Why don't you guys use Cubase SX or Ableton LIVE! Rewire with Reason ??? I've been using this for years and that gives me all the advantages of both programs in one system ! You can even use both Sequences at the same time.

I guess the 'no-vst-support' was to be expected.
Still no arpeggiator in reason right? (correct me if im wrong, FL man here :)
The new mastering stuff looks nice, especially the compressor ( side chain!)

Overall conclusion, for producing in a studio it hasn't really improved a lot I think, the focus was making music live.

A lot of new presets and samples are added though.
Too bad there aren't much updated or new plugins/instruments.
sucks if you dont have vst-support.
In my opinion more of an update (version 2.8 or something) than a new version 3.0

Overall it's still a very good product I think!
with which you can make excellent music.

What? Reason doesn't support VSTi you say? Last I checked, neither do JP 8080s, Juno 106s, Tb303s, TR909s. Crap man, you can't record audio on that stuff either. I ain't buyin' it.

Seriously, though, I think Reason is a great program. It is NOT a sequencer, it is NOT competition for logic or protools or cubase...it is a program that, as they say, is meant to replace a hardware studio. It's great because, not being open to plugins, the thing is rock solid. An analogy: if you live in a cave, you might not have any friends, but no one will eat the last of the chocolate cake. No one will get into your stuff, or wear your bathrobe. Also, Reason is great for beginners. If you decide that, after learning a good bit about production, you need midi out or better mastering or etc, you can save up yr pennies and get one of the aforementioned sequencers. Bottom line is that Reason is it's own thing. They don't expect EVERYONE to like it. Lot's of people hate it. Bottom line is, if you read about Reason and decide it doesn't have features that you need, don't buy it. I don't complain about he price of a new car "that can't even fly or travel through time or go 900 billion miles per hour." You can't try to force something to be something else, you just ignore it if it isn't what you want. Sorry this post is so long,

This looks like a good update. The MClass is definately a welcome addition. I also think that the 3.0 Soundbank will be great, I would much rather have a new soundbank than a new synth. The Remote protocol looks good also, I might look into getting a new midi controller (instead of just the roland pc-70 I use now).

The Combinator looks alright, but I don't think that I'll be using it too much. Maybe it will be more usefull when I get to try it out.

Reason has so many features to start with that it doesn't really need too much added. The only things that I would like to see in reason are:

Line-In recording
Arpeggiator
VST Support
Tube Distortion (better than the one in scream4)

Oh, and a built in MP3 exporter. There are probably a couple other things I've overlooked, but with these additions reason would be a complete studio package imo.
