Yeah, I agree with the critics of this post...In case you were unaware, which I'm sure that you were, before Oakenfold was a superstar dj, he was a producer for many r/b and hip hop groups, way before trance blew up.
Don't take what he's saying to mean something, when you don't really know what's going on.
Peace. |
Damnit !!! U stole all my thunder in a few lines ;) |

Okay dude I've lost all respect for u now. Judge Jules is better then Oakie !!!! WTF !!!
bluE_Neon does know what he is talking about and his signture does reflect that he does listen to underground trance....and not the cheery cheezy trance tunes that are almost compareable to that u see on MTV top 20.
Underground Rulez !!! Nick Warren Tonite !!!!!
That reminds me...I have a exam to study for....I'll follow up the debate later guys. :) |

I like the way that we can have a good discussion on this baord without flaming each other. But to get back to the argument I don't know what Rap/Hip Hop and Trance would sound like...but that's exactly why we have to wait and find out...who knows...it might sound good.
I haven't heard Oakie live recently but I have heard that his last few sets have been dissapointing, but that's no reason for him to retire. U have to understand that Paul Oakenfold is more then just a DJ...he is a producer, a promoter and an innovater. The man has does more then spin music so just because his recent performances are bad doesn't mean that he can't contribute to the scene. Also when it comes to the question of whether he should retire...I'm sure the day that ppl stop loving the music Oakie spins or makes then he will HAVE to retire...I think that most ppl give Oakie crap because they still want him to spin the Epic Trance that he used to 2 years ago, but like the true pioneer that he is he's moved on to other forms of trance music.
Most ppl don't realize that Trance music is not what defines Oakie. He was spinning Acid House and Goa way before the epic trance thing because popular...Oakie played a major part in briging Trance to the limelight and making it soo popular. Listen to his old sets and you'll find that a lot of DJ's (even though they won't admit it) have been influenced by his style and are doing today what he was doing a few years ago.
Once again i'm not a Oakie fan...but the man has done great things for the scene and I hate it that ppl forget about all that... |
Same here because we can always talk and share our opinions without flaming each others . Anyways i'm not saying that i forgot the good things he made for the scene . As for his retirement , i was talking about djing , not producing or promoting . Even in his interviews he doesn't want to admit that lately he has been a bad dj . As for mixing trance with rap , i still think it's a very bad idea ... |

U didn't understand an ounce of what i said ...
Let's compare JJ's Qontact set with any of Paul Oakenfold's set from 2000 and wether u like it or not JJ has been better than him . Once again i have to remind u that P.Oak was crappy these last two years . Although all the cheese JJ can play , he gave at least one set that was better than all others PO made in 2000-2001 .
And i have a question , have u ever seen PO live ? well i did and it was total bull |

hell yah .. im excited!!
I've been waiting for electronic producers to get a hand in the rap game. I think if dre/timbaland and other people can produce rap tracks then someone like oakey or pvd could create a masterpiece. I'd be getting the best of both worlds with a oakie/dre creation.
It could start a new trend in music .. look what bt did with nsync.. well forget that cuz it sucked but i saw potential..... |

hey bro, Oakenfold was and will be underground..da hell u talking about :eyes: ? Oakie is way better dan JJ, dont even compare him 2 JJ...Oakie has been longer dan JJ in da scene, bro were talking about guy dat will always be in da memory of EVERY TRU RAVER there is out there, it doesn't matter if he's right now, or has been ty 4 da past 2 years...wat matters is wat he's done in da past, and u know and OTHERS IN HERE know dat its coz of Oakie why trance of wat it is right now :) sometimes i think dat people in here, in Tranceaddict r not addicts, there COMMERCIAL they just know da musik and saying there addicts, i know people how listen 2 jungle, d&b, garage, still say dat Oakenfold is a pioneer or da best, not because he's so ty dis year or watever, because they know wat Oakenfold did 2 da seen...did u ever listen 2 his GU series, some of dem have jungle, breakz and even d&b songs, not entire, but like a mix of trance with it :) wats so bad as well being famous, Oakie is famous, dat goods 4 him and he deserves it ;)
im off 2 see Nick Warren right now in HMV :D gonna get some posters and an autograph :D :) :) :)
l8tz and take care TA's |

I think if they did get together .. it might be something like a
NERD - Lap Dance
that song has a electronic feel to it .. and i dont think it would be necessarily a trance/rap song .. i'd say electronic/rap cuz trance has no room for incosistent rap vocals and beats ....
and i dont care what anyone says about oakey's dj'ing .. he is good at what he does, if ur not better then him then dont hate please ..
Hes definately not as good as he once was or as good as other djs now .. but hes still good......... |

Once my little brother started saying eminem lyrics and i slapped him silly and told him not to ever say like that again, kid didnt realise what he was saying until i told him...
as for Oakenfold, well, i sure wouldnt like trance to be connected with rap, but hey, just the more ppl to hate Oakie:D

Why is it that Ferry Corsten can remix a total crap german poodle-rock metal band (Apoptygma berzerk - cathy's song) and get treated like the new trance messiah for it?
And yet as soon as Oakenfold says he'd like to work with a man like Dre - who is, like it or not, acknowledged as a pioneering genius in his own field, and definitely one of the most influential people in late 20th century music - Oakenfold gets totally slammed for it?
I don't like Eminem one little bit but I'd be interested to see what Oakie could do to him. I doubt that it would be 'proper' trance but what's important is that whatever came out of the collaboration would definitely get on MTV, and it might even turn on some R&B and hip hop people into searching out some proper trance ... trance is in pretty dire straits at the moment, we have to grow the fan base of our music and keep it alive, I reckon if Oakie can pull it off he deserves all our support. |

Relax bro don't worry i have never said Ferry Corsten is the Trance Messiah or something , in fact he's the biggest the Trance scene has seen and i know what i'm saying , i have my reasons .
A question , what do u think of Paul signing with Maverick records (Madonna's label) ? |

As I said in the other thread related to that topic :
-----------
Well good on him I say ... even if he ends up selling out and making a cheese trance-lite album to cash in 'Stateside, the man's done probably more for trance over the years than any other person alive and he deserves his big corporate payout. That Lotherton hall Gatecrasher set of his, is without a doubt the greatest hour of trance ever spun, I have listened to it hundreds and hundreds of times and it still makes my knees go weak
I haven't been that impressed with his recent sets but on the other hand I think Tiesto's been going downhill ever since Flight 643 so who cares which one's copying the other? The trance-innovator label has long ago left either of those two and been passed to newer, better producers like Dumonde.
Besides ... it might be all a smoke screen ... imagine if his master plan is to make a crap Britney-pop-trance album and get a few hundred thousand MTV teeny boppers along to his big off stadium show, lock the doors to keep em all inside and then spin a 3 or 4 hour classic super uplifting set circa '99 ... kids minds would be BLOWN!! ... the impending USA trance revolution would be well and truly started :D:D:D:D:D How in cool would that be??
---------------
In some ways I wish Oakie would stop sniffing the ass of big corporate music labels and come back to spinning mind blowing sets of mega epic trance for the hard core fans ... but I also think that we can't sit back on our asses with our comfortable little trance scene and write off anyone who tries to move it in new directions or open it up to a greater market. Oakie is one of the few people that has the musical muscle and credibility to get the big corporate record labels to pay him any attention, and I say more power to him if he does do any of those sort of collaborations.
You are being pretty hard on old Ferry Corsten there as well man ... did he steal your girl or something? For all I care, the dude could be the bastard love child of Saddam Hussein and Tipper Gore and I'd still respect him for the sets he spins ... |

I think this thread makes no sense. Why should Paul Oakenfold retire or why should he be lame when working with Eminem & Dre?
Deep Dish made a remix of N Sync - Pop, Luke Slater did a remix for Madonna... etc. etc.
And Fastdjmp3, how can you ever say Judge Jules is better than Paul Oakenfold?! Damn, that's a total lack of knowlegde/feeling/taste.

Very true. Some people are just too narrow-minded. |
