Exactly. The fall in value of the US$ means that export is stimulated increasing and more people are willing to deal with the US, the economy strengthens, the dollar value rises.....and then all the tourists and Brits go home :p
As for me it's great, I can buy stuff so damn cheap in the US and when it hits $2 per £1 it means even less brain power required to work out how much it costs me.....if it weren't for those damn Amex foreign exchange surcharges :( |

Our SW Florida home (where I am at the moment) is over a million now. It was built about nine years ago for only around $200,000.
The real estate market down here is in a bubble right now. When it pops the prices will still be sky-high, but prices won't grow as fast as they have in the past three years. It's really insane.
Of course my mother has been lucky with real estate in general, too. |

True, thats why you gotta think long term and put all your money into gold. From my point of view a falling dollar isn't such a bad thing I mean look at how much our DJ equipment costs us stateside. I bought my pair of Techs used for less than $500 which is now about 250 GBP, gotta love that deal. My house is huge in a metropolitan area and comes in just under $1 mil, i guess that would cost about 2 million GBP if it was in GB? Also like I said if you have any interest in exports a falling dollar is very nice. |

A 4 bedroom house in Florida with a nice swimming pool would probably cost the equivalent in USD :) |
Yeah, but who the hell would want a swimming pool here? Unless you want somewhere to ice-skate during the winter...

It's true enough, property in England is ridiculously expensive compared with what you can get here with the same money... :D |

what he meant was if the same house was in the UK. so he is probably right :p
at the end of the day though, its all about assets. because of your failing dollar, your assets are worth a lot less in the grand scheme of things. you might think you are rich and have an expensive house, but you sell all your assets and take your money elsewhere and it is worth half as much.
i wouldn't like that. |

So then you're saying real estate prices are the same in metro areas of Texas as they are in metro areas of the UK? I don't think so buddy. I've seen the way it goes down in most of Europe and their real estate prices are significantly higher than here in the US especially a state with as much room as Texas. |

put it this way, if i bought one of those 4 bedroom houses with a swimming pool in florida, but it was here, it would probably be in excess of £300,000 |
Houses around me have been valued at 600,000 - no swimming pool, 3 bedrooms and in the suburbs of london... we could sell up and move out to america and get a really nice house!... but we won't :p |
