Oakie vs. Tiesto

Who do you think has done more for trance music and culture?
While Tiesto is the current star, let's remember that Oakenfold was huge way before Tiesto put on a pair of headphones. Stretching back into the late 1980's, he can almost rightfully be called the 'father of trance'.
Though no doubt both are legends of the genre, I must say I side with Oakenfold. His variety is what impresses most. The Global Underground in Oslo - with the melodic drum n bass. The New York with the underground jungle hits. His involvement in the goa-psy and house scenes. And let's not forget trance and how he introduced it to the world.
Oakie is the man for me, Tiesto tightly in second place.
Third will go to PvD for me... Sasha might be tied there (esp after Involver). |

| Oakenfold vs Tiesto ... hmmm, well they were AMAZING DJ's who really stood out during their peaks. Oakenfold really pioneered the genre, at least for DJ's, becoming the first DJ to attain GOD-LIKE SUPERSTAR statis. My personal preference would go to Tiesto but Oakenfold was very good when he loved to spin... Tough one for me actually. |

| What the are you smoking? Oakenfold is not the "father of trance"...not by a long shot. I don't even really think there is one person who could be considered the "father of trance". However, if they held a gun to my head and I had to give an answer, i'd say Ralf Hildenbeutel, Sven Väth, Pascal F.E.O.S, Oliver Lieb, Harald Bluechel, Mark Reeder, Dave Angel, Goa Gil, Raja Ram...even the guys behind Eat Static. All major players in the beginning of trance. |

| who cares? does it actually really matter? Oakenfold brought a lot to the scene, but was never a top notch mixer. just listen to transport. The mixing is horrid at times. |

Hardly. While I'm not defending Tiesto, Markus has made music more mainstream then anybody...look at GDJB and Party 93.1. |
