I have three questions before I set out on my path to world domination: :P
1)What softsynth replicates the Virus synth the closest?
2)What controller keyboard is small n compact n is widely used? I've seen a KORG greyish one around, but unsure of the model. Would just like some opinions.
3)Lastly just tell me if my understanding is correct -
Controller keyboard (boring sounds) ---> [soundcard [PC]] ---> softsynth on PC ---> beautiful sounds ?
just wire my controller thru the softsynth and use the synth to with the sounds? thats it right?
would appreciate it if you guys could help me clarify these little things.

More like...
Controller (no sound) --> usb / midi --> PC --> synth --> sound
It is all up to the user to make that sound beautiful.
As for a keyboard that is compact, check out the Oxygen8 or Ozone8 (I think that is what the newer one is called). Both are by M-Audio and designed for portability. |

Dood,in firsth place a keyboard controller does not come with sounds, some soundcards come with some midi sounds but dont expect them to be good, the thing would be sort of like this:
(Keyboard)Midi Controller+Usb/Midi/in/out+Soundcard(Low Latency)Lattest drivers+asio4all+Reason/Cubase/Fruity(Any Software you want)+Refills/Vstis/Vstfx+Cd-DVD-RW.
I think that would be more or less what ya mean. |

myes, world domination. you and the other 3 billion trance producers shall take over the world. |

the korg you are referring to in the MICROkontrol, it has a 3 octave range as opposed to the M-audios mentioned above with 2 octaves, but they keys are not full sized so if you have fat fingers like me, stick with the M-audio.
now to hijack your thread, i recently installed ableton and reson on my computer however i have no clue how to use either. the tutorials on ableton are very informative, and i havent searched reason for tutorials like it, but does anyone know of any books or webpages that offer in-depth info on these softwares and their features? thanks. |

I already knew Cryo was a dick, but {b.s.e.} too? lighten up guys, don't say anything if you can't help..

Vanguard can, at times, sound like the crappier sounds a Virus can do.
if you want a small keyboard controller.. I wouldn't recommend anything less than 49 keys unless you intend to carry it around with you (laptop studio). But the M-Audio Evolution series & Edirol are good..
Onceler answered your 3rd question accuratly.. |

1 - take your pick, z3ta+, albino or vanguard. each has it's own strengths
2 - m-audio's are good controllers, but the knob builds on them are junk, i suggest looking into Edirol's line, a little more expensive, but they're manufactured by Roland. |

haha chill dudes the world domination thing was just to get that exact kinda response from u .. just that u were sposed to think it in your head and not post em in the thread? =)
Neways..yeah i've done some reading on those controllers. Oxygen is freakin cheap compared to others and its functionality is alright too. The Radium49 looks pretty good too actually. But I'd probably prefer the Edirol 49-key one for long term.. after all.. its parent coy is Roland.
- edirolpcr50
- maudio oxygen
- radium49
I actually have an old Yamaha DJX keyboard (not controller) but I didnt know how to hook it up to the softsynths. I reckon I need a midi port or something on my soundcard first.
So i'll be getting professional soundcard first..maybe the M-audio Delta with a midiport. What do you ppl think?
.. then my controller
.. and some m1 actives..
.. and THEN. ONLY THEN... will my path be paved....
for... (say it together now cyro n bse!!)...

Also look into the Evolution line of controllers. I'm planning on getting an Evolution 449c soon. Like Roland is Edirol's parent company, Evolution is owned by M-Audio, but I think it's better quality than the Oxygen/Radium line, which I hear feels like toys. Plus they have more knobs, sliders, and buttons. |

STFU and get your head out of your care bear-ass, and stop trying too hard getting cred. You're just too obvious. And you're not a producer of any kind either. A really bad remixer/stealer, at best.
But my point is, stop answering all the fukken n00bs, no matter what, and maybe this forum will be usefull again. |
