Oh the humanity! My dog is going to be killed. :eyes:
CBC News: Ontario moves to ban pit bulls
I think that is a owner issue not a dog breed issue. Pit bulls are good dogs if they are properly trained.
Some more background info from the CBC :eyes:
Looking at the background information this seems to be a coordinated effort in Canada for some time. Can any Canadians enlighten us further? |

All I know that there has been some attacks here in Toronto by pit bulls but there's been attacks from other types of dogs too and thats where the problem starts, people are saying what if next year some other type of dogs attacks a few people?are those dogs gonna get banned too?why only pick on pit bulls?
so it is a bit complicated and there has been alot of protests about it as well. |

| yet another issue popular culture over exagerates. how many pit bull attacks could there possibily be each year? i'm sure you could find another animal that has a similar amount of attacks each year but would seem crazy to "ban" |

Yeah its totally gay. Pitbulls need training and control, maybe more than other dogs because of their power and fearlessness, thats all. And the ban isnt a solution, its skirting the issue. Its like banning cars because some people dont know how to drive very well accidentaly kill some people.
The real solution would have been, like the thread starter said, is being involved with owners. Like certification, training, courses, etc. |

I disagree, unless of course, you're talking about cars that drive themselves. Bad driving is wholly the result of a person's incompetence. Pit bulls, after being bred to fight for over 200 years, are inherently dangerous. Although they can sometimes be well trained, there still exists a greater-than-normal urge to fight.

That might work, theoretically, however there seems to be some correlation between an owner's personality and the type of dog they chose. I suggest, based solely on personal experience and conjecture, that someone who is drawn to such powerful, vicious, and notorious creatures, might not be conducive to "certification and trainnig courses." All that being said, I don't see the ban really being that effective either.

| good, pitbulls should be banned. they are good for only one thing. being in the pit, bullfighting other dogs. they are fighting dogs, specially bred for the purpose. BAN THEM, BAN THEM ALL!!! |

My sister has a pit, and he's a teddy bear. They are definately have some inherited fighting traits, but it's how you raise them that will make the most difference.
So what happens to the pit bulls that people already have? |

| The existing pitbulls will be allowed to remain. |
