| and why in the world would I send something by FedEx if I can send it for a fraction of the cost by CanadaPost? |

| if 5 seconds or even 30 seconds make that much of a difference then you are going to die an early death from stressing yourself out too much by overburdening your day. |

Canada Post is incredibly efficient and a great service. Jayx1, if you had ANY clue wtf you're talking about you'd understand that.
For instance, I mailed out some TA shirts on Monday morning, regular mail, and they got to some people by Tuesday. It cost me a buck, how much faster do you want? |

| im not complaining about speed. Im saying that they are stupid to go on strike now and hold the public hostage when there are so many other options right now. 10 years ago they may have had a leg to stand on. Not anymore. |

What I would like to know is what percentage of the middle class is in a union?
I know exactly what its like to work in the private sector.Your "job" can be easily erased from an internal audit and the stresses of not knowing how or where you'll earn your next paycheck...Yes I know that times have changed but that doesn't make it right...1 or 2 year contracts...its total bull so that a company can save $$$ to satisfy shareholders.
Now that I am in a union (ATU local 113)...I don't have the stresses & worries that I used to have and I make a descent living & my purchasing power is alot better...
I know that unions can be a pain in the ass (even mine) but its a better standard of living then trying to eke out an existence. |

I personally think unions need to reinvent themselves because for the most part they encourage lazy middle and upper managements while the new guy gets burdoned with all the work.
Ive seen it myself and heard many accounts of it |

In our union there is NOBODY in TTC managment...and the bottom of the TTC managment totem pole is a foreperson and when the hits the fan then THEY get all the crap thrown at them...hence the reason why I will stay in the union & stay in my trade...
I'll agree with you that the unions need to get with the times on some issues. Some of the union executives in our local do very idiotic things... |

exactly...end of discussion, LOL.
The entire point of a strike, or the threat of one, is that the strike will pressure a settlement. If there's no real disruption...what motivation is there for the other side to settle?
Teachers striking in the summer...um...would anyone really care until September rolled around? ;)
Email and courier companies have certainly eaten into CP's profits and removed CP as a "necessity"...but if you look around, CP's XPressPost, for eg., is still one of the cheapest and most reliable options out there.
I ordered from Amazon.ca (local warehouse in mississauga) on Sunday at 4am and had the CDs in my mailbox Tuesday morning. Free shipping. I don't think anyone will provide free shipping if you use a courier (?) |

| while all these points may be true ... dont u think these guys can use this to their advantage whenever they want even though they have no justification for their demands ...i mean fair enough at the end of the day we all want to make more money but there are better and more ethical ways of making it |

You're paying for Canada Post out of your taxes. If only you knew how much that package ACTUALLY cost you. |

I must agree. All my mail gets to the destinations in the GTA within a day. Even out of town is pretty fast too. |
