Abnormal in your mind perhaps... is it abnormal for those who are gay to want to more formally express their love for a partner though?
It seems a number of people are up in arms over the "traditional" definition of marriage being altered and that is somehow infringing on rights of straight couples who are married.
Personally, I think this can all be resolved quite easily. I don't support the idea of a "separate but equal" classification of civil unions for gay couples. Rather, I think the government should abandon the term altogether. If various religions want to maintain their definition of marriage, fine. But going forward, ANY couple, whether straight or gay should be able to be "married" (using whatever new term you want to describe it as) under the eyes of the law / government. Leave the term "marriage" to individual religions or churches to define as they see fit. |

i agree.. it's that word 'marriage' that seems to bother people..
i also noticed that it's predominantly sects within the Christian faith that choose to 'marry' gay couples. you don't seem to hear about gay marriage in Judaism, Hinduism, Bhudaism, Islam, etc.. i wonder what effect this will hav on the overall Christian church in Canada..

| You're grouping the christian churches together - which shouldn't be done. |

There are certain financial benefits to getting married. And those benefits "encourage" couples to have kids. Now, if everyone suddenly starts getting married without possibility of raising kids... then shouldn't those benefits be used for some other purposes? |

The humanity ?? Raising kids is important for the survival of the human race :)
There are certain financial benefits to getting married. Those benefits probably encourage couples to have kids. And, as far as I know, most couples do in fact have kids, so those benefits are generally put to good use(namely - kid's education, etc)
Hence, IMHO, it would only be fair for everyone if when a gay couple gets married, it is expected that they would adopt and raise a child. |

On the contrary, it would only be fair for those that actually HAVE children to get the financial benefits that accompany doing so.
Why should couples who get married and DON'T have kids be entitled to the benefits? |
