meh, if you're dead and there is nothing, you wouldn't know and thus wouldn't be disappointed at the lack of reward for all this we go through on a day to day basis. |

when you die, you die. there's nothing after that. when you can accept this, you'll live a fuller happier life and you will be at peace when your time rolls around. |

says the 17 year old. you have no idea what exists on the other side. once you accept that you will be a lot more at peace with the rest of the universe. |

thats your belief man... i respect it, but thats not how i feel.
perhaps someday i will, but for now, i've accepted how life after death, or lack thereof will be with my current beliefs. |

i don't believe in anything after this so called life, per se. i just know that there is way too much going on at so many different levels of existence, to assume and rationalise what we cannot understand is futile.
i profess to know nothing on this subject, only suggest that there is no point in making a concrete statement on the unknown. |

agreed. i know there is far too much going on everywhere we know and everywhere we dont to actually assume we know anything. i cant even be sure if im actually here replying to your post. all i know is that i truly know nothing.
when this "life" ends, whether there's something beyond that or not, i dont know. i dont think there is, but i can never be sure about that or about anything.
i suppose i wasnt clear enough in my original post. perhaps i should have said something like:
"in my belief, when you die, you die. as far as i know, there's nothing after that. when one can accept this ideology, that person will live a fuller, happier life and will be at peace when their time rolls around. This is of course if my assumption is correct. i suppose if im wrong, i'll find out at some point. if im right, then i guess i'll never know."

For me, castration is a much bigger fear than death.
I mean, i imagine that once youre dead, you cant really worry about it anymore.
But if someone severs your scrotum, youve got to look down everday and see your sackless penis just hanging in the breeze...never to be happy again.
At that point, I might have to choose death |

I would rather blindly believe in something and have hope for what is to become of me once I pass, than to believe in nothing at all.
What is the harm in believing in it? It doesn't hurt anyone, and it's like insurance. If there is nothing, who cares - theres nothing anyway, and if there is something, than damn aren't you glad you believed in it?
I've been brought up to believe in God. When I was 12 until I was 17, I went through a "I don't know what I believe in" stage. I have realized I believe in a higher power, and I am comfortable with that :) I certainly don't WANT to die, but it isn't something I completely fear anymore either.
To each their own right? |

Death does not scare me, as it can happen at any moment. Within the next 2 mins my monitor could explode, sending half inch thick glass shards into every inch of my body. You need to be ready to accept it. |

why? that's refusing to admit you don't know what's out there. |

Or finally accepting you can't really know what's out there. |

not exactely, as believing means being convinced of the existence of something.
the post i quoted is actually not very clear, since blind belief and hope are two totally different things. |
