recess and lots of hours spent in my bedroom even after alomst a year i know there is still sooo much to learn for me

by reading recess and, youll laugh at this, by practicing on my first "decks".

These were 2 hifi turntables stolen from my mum and dad. They were belt drive and had no pitch control so i would litteraly have to keep my finger on one to keep two tracks in time. The "mixer" i used was, well, i had the left channel of one deck and the right channel of the other hooked up to my mums old hifi and used the balance control as a crossfader!!!!

:D :toothless :happy2:

So far I've only been able to match a few beets.

Well I've been producing since I was about 15 so I pretty much knew what to do when I got decks about a year ago.

Of course it was harder than it looked like but I feel it helped me immensely since it was much easier for me to figure out song structures etc. My friend started at the same time as me (who's never produced anything) and he's still struggling with it (not that I'd be perfect at it...).

i taught myself everything i know, all i did was cue it in and pitched it depending on whether it was faster or slower.. it aint rocket science :p

now i have a full-blown technique where i cue it in slower, then spin the record with my finger gently and continuously, and pitch up the fader until i don't need to spin the record any more. that usually gets it beatmatched for 20 seconds or so, and the rest can be done on the fly.

Taught myself and watched djs spin at the clubs and what not. My epifany happend when I learned it was OK to touch and adjust the record while the mix was going. From there it was more about perfecting then learning.

Pretty much learned on my own. Of course the learning happened with hours, days, weeks of pratice.

Took a long time to learn on my first set of decks (Stanton STR8-30's - how times have changed ).:happy2:

self taught

been at it about a year now, its a bitch with belt drives cus even when you feel you have it done 99% you have to kinda babysit one or the other with a finger cus it will drift of every now and then...

if you can get it matched quick it leaves plenty of time to experiment with it, did a recording yesterday where a few tracks had bits of the next track thrown in for a couple of bars... gonna work on that more

but yea.. its all about the practice, if you dont practice, you wont get it...

Guidelines from recess and friends.

u may have heard this before but the best way you can possibly learn is by buying two copies of the same tune!

set the pitch to zero (or make sure there the same)

and let one play, simply move the cuing vinyl over the beat, let go, speed up or slow down and lay the beats on top ov eachother, simply knock it out ov sync and then put it back again to practice!

then change the pitch and try and bring it back in sync!

hope that helps!
