I don't think this is a n00b question, just curious. How did all of you learn how to beatmatch? did you use the tutuorial given in this forum? Did you teach yourself?

Followed the tutorials there, and PRACTICED a lot.
beats and beeps
I just scratched back and fourth across a beat, let it go, moved the pitch up/down according to whether it sounded too fast or slow. Went back to the beat, and did it again. Again. Again. Until it sounded half alright.

I can't remember fully, but I had no help:( , nobody I knew was into DJin, I hardly knew what a turntable really was, and I didn't have very good access to the internet, had to teach it all to myself from what I heard in DJ sets that I got from the radio.

I was all alone.:(

practice

but reading that recess tutorial and watching some djs play will help you to understand the concept.

I knew the basic principles: line up the beats and speed up/slow down the cued track until they are the same tempo. When I actually got to use a friend's CDJ-100s, all it took was a little lesson on how to cue, how to pitch bend, and I dove right in.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because it seems to come naturally to me. It really only took me about an hour to get the hang of it. Just a bit of practice and it all fell into place. The only thing I had difficulty with was discerning which track was faster and which was slower. However, I got around that by making adjustments to the cued track and going off of whether my adjustment made it better or worse (ie. if I slowed it down and it sounded worse, I know I need to go the other way). I still have trouble discerning which is the faster track, but I've gotten better.

i used to work with acid pro quite a bit for some projects, and the tools in the program helped me figure out beat and phrase matching. then i got some decks and started messing with the pitch sliders. then just practice nonstop

recess gave me the theory.

i got some techs and a mixer, threw two copies of the same record on the decks, and figured it out in a few days. I still haven't perfected it though, i can usually get the beatmatch REALLY close within 5 to 10 seconds, that part is easy. the fine tuning down to where it sounds out after 32 beats, that part is still screwing me up sometimes.

I learned by my self from internet guides and a book in barnes and nobles thats called "How to become a DJ" I read it and it helped me alot understand what I was doing etc.
