Never mind mags, they always talk bs :D
Never seen a mag come up with something new so.. =)
Schranz is like way old, no? :)
the 'hottest' genre at the moment is definatley, undoubtably minimal =) even if it's just the name ^^

Schranz is definately not new.
It has been around for years, mostly in Germany. Maybe music-mag has recently discovered it, and that's why they think it's new... ;) |

Yeah, like it was mentioned before, it's def not a new sub genre, it's been around for years. But alot of Djs such as Chris Liebing include it in their sets. It's prob not the "hottest" sub genre of techno around, but alot of ppl seem to like it.
I'm personally not a big fan of it, but in a long set, some Schranz tunes are killer :eyespop: |

While we're on the subject, can anyone who knows a thing or two about techno explain what the main sub-genres are, and name a couple of examples from each for me to check out. I'm doing a project for uni and need to know.
I did ask the same thing on one of the techno boards but they all seem to have gone into a coma (or none of them actually know :p) so any help here would be appreciated.

There is nothing new nor hot about schranz.
It's piss poor tunes notched up to 150bpm. People who play it often give little or no thought to set structure. It's all just bosh bosh bosh!! e e e!!! |

i agree with you on that one, although is quite popular with all 14-17 year old kids, new to the scene and drugs. |

1. schranz
substyle of progressive techno music. typical elements are merciless repetetive pattern, harsh abrasive machine-like sound. agressive, inhuman. schranz tries to fulfill all the cliches of techno music. sometimes uses funny and/or offensive samples. became quite popular in germany in the early 21st century. also called 'geshredder' oder 'gebretter'. schranz rules!
some Djs playing or producing schranz: Chris Liebing, DJ Rush, Robert Natus, ...

there ya have it folks! :D
...and for the record, schranz certainly does not rule lol |

It's just a term coined by Liebing to describe the music he has been playing for the last few years now, it's not even a real genre.
Having said that, it's boring as hell too. And it's in no way a hype at the moment. |
