Has anyone had an abscess drained before (tonsils)?!?

I just got back from the doc's office - he looked at me like as if he'd seen a in alien or something. My throat, and glands are so swollen i cant even swallow my saliva. He said if it gets any more inflamed or my fever rises again i need to go directly to the ER and get it "DRAINED". Im afraid......very afraid.

I was close to that (minus fever). Was having a real hard time swallowing. Went and got some drugs in the ER and started taking them, things started to ease the day after. |

This is EXACTLY what I had last year. One of the worst ing experience of my life. I was bedridden for 2 weeks. Stay the away from me!! :D
Also, take the drugs they tell you to. I tried to be a "big man" and let it "cure itself" and that lead to a downward spiral of pain and agony. Just take the drugs man. |

Oh jesus. Two weeks!? Drugs it is.....he gave them to me in liquid form since i cant even swallow pills/solids. |

well my dear - it seems that you are VERY sick - and you should go to ER anyways - and get you tonsils out! i have had symptons similiar and you better hope is not scarlet fever or larangitis or mono or the flu virus (norwalk ) that is goping on .. but you live outside of toronot - so i dunno if it is hitting ther e- get better and GET THE FLU shot - if you havent' already!
Get well... drink luke warm fluids and take good care of your self!~

Every year i use to get the worst throat infection. When i was a kid i never told anyone about it and just lived through the pain. In my later high school years i would get a prescription of antibiotics but they stopped working after a few years. I told my doctor to take my tonsils out even though he though i didnt need to.
So at 22 i had my tonsils removed and it wasnt without pain. For me it took me about a month to heal because in week 2 i sneezed so hard that i ripped my scars open and then in week 3 as i tried to eat chicken, i swallowed a bone that scrapped the scars open in my throat.
You cant eat ice cream or jello like kids can. When you are older, the sugar in the foods burns your throat like hell.
It is so worth it though so just do it.

This is exactly what I have right now. Sometimes it's hard to breathe.
Aw, it. I'll just get rid of them myself with a pair of garden shears.
Maybe a gas powered hedge trimmer while I'm at it.
