LSD is chemical, and its not addictive. Cocaine comes from a leaf, and is natural, yet is considered somewhat addictive.. Sure many drugs today have additives, but most drugs are from a natural source... Stuff like 2ct-7 is chemical, and also not addictive, same with DXM.
I mean I think addiction is based very much on genetics, some people are highly prone to addiction, often this is seen in a family's history. Some drugs are very addictive like crack cocaine, heroin, and especially meth, but most addiction problems stem from your body's own physiological and emotional reaction to drugs.
If we talk about addiction in the physiological sense, we have to make nicotine the number one bad boy, since truly its one of the worst drugs out there and is highly addictive....
Addiction for addicts is hard to realize, I understand what your saying completely. When your addicted, its hard for you to realize it, usually those people need to hit rock bottom or come to the realization themselves...

Sorry to pick on this :) But this is just not true. Your statement is saying that 100% of chemical drugs is addictive to all people. The truth is that number is more like 5% or less.
I mean as crazy as it is to say this, there are people who can use cocaine, heroin, crack responsibly.. Some people have the ability to do addictive drugs and not be very much effected by the drug. Of course I don't recommend people try these drugs, but I know quite a few people that have done cocaine and those people only did it once or even a few times, but none of them are addicted.
The true danger lies in drugs like heroin, crack and meth which are some of the most addictive substances available. Try any of those just once and you can get addicted from the first time. But even that is unlikely.
I have to stop these speaches ;) |

Guys, please DO be concerned of the various doses of drugs you are taking. You may wake up alive and normal the next day, but some brain systems do not produce deficit effects that YOU CAN FEEL until 70% of the cells operating in the system are dead.
What you feel on LSD is a ed up brain struggling to acheive some sort of balance again.....Dood, its nice you can make sense out of it....it really means nothing though, just a bizerk state where your head tries to regain proper function. When you say LSD is not for the weak minded, what I think you mean to say is "If you can handle being scared less because you are malfunctioning so severely...then do acid"
Feelings of fear or confusion accompany those states because your body is trying to warn you. They are not emotions to be ignored.

First off all, I agree with you that one should watch their intake or dose carefully, and I do agree that behavioural defecits do not arise until a sufficient amount of physiological damagae has been sustained. However, where do you get the figure of 70%, based on what study did you infer that number? Parkinson's Disease is well know to be due to the striatal deficiency of dopamine following neuronal degeneration within the substantia nigra, but the exact percentage of destruction that needs to take place in order to exhibit symptoms is unknown. In other words don't make generalized statements like that without any empirical basis for them. Moreover, from where do you draw your theory of LSD's mechanisms of action. Personally I think you do not have a clue of what you are talking about. The exact physiological mechanism of action for LSD are still uncertain, so what makes you such an expert. Furthermore, feelings of fear and confusion do not necessarly correlate with your body's attempt to warn you of some adverse affect. Alterd states can in themselves can be frightening to many individuals, regardles of the causal orgin. Its nice that you try to share your opinion with other, but be critical of what you say, and don't give out the false impression of expertise. |

Hey
If you want to talk about the mechanics of drug action - let me know....I will get down to the nitty gritty with you. My opinion is based on neuropsychopharmacological research, as I am a student of neuroscience at the university of Toronto. I did not however, feel the need to reference my statements in this forum. I was simply responding to a comment by someone mentioning that you shouldn't be fearful of high dosage.
If you would like me to show you the data I have on the behavioural deficits of Parkinson's disease in relation to the number and localization of dopaminergic neuronal death, let me know.
I am not here to critize people's use of drugs, but I do care to help people limit brain atrophy by being unsafe.
If you would like to discuss LSD in such detail as to the specific receptor sub-type it binds to, let me know.
I am not a neurologist, but the majority of my day is spent enveloped in neuroscience research so I feel confident in saying I know what I am talking about. Perhaps I shouldn't share it...it is too much trouble and a bit of a waste of time.
Later

I totally agree, too. Music is my drug. I never took any pills or exciting substances. And I'm always able to danc all the night. |

I don't think anyone is implying you need drugs for this scene and to dance all night. Variety is what being alive is all about. You say music is your drug and nothing else. Do you drink at all? If so, do you drink the SAME exact drink everytime or do you vary it up a little, have a little variety? I know I certainly do, it's all alcohol but I like to try different things. Same goes with any other form of drug being it material or not. I love the music too, I can go all night just listening and dancing away. Every now and then I like to vary it up, so I'll do some drugs (last time was several months ago). They're all different states and all very enjoyable. |

you act like i have no validity to my statements. true i did read on and dont assume that im not informed on anything i say, or i wouldnt have said it. im not in a school for neuro this or whatever, but that doesnt mean i dont know what it does or doesnt do to the body

trust me, i didnt mean for people to take insane amounts of any drug. that is the last thing i would recommend. i was just making the point that regardless of what i may have taken, im not some whacked out crack head laying in my room shaking, i was just saying people should not be afraid that if they trip they will be pushed into some world of insanity and will remain that way for the rest of their lives. and also, once again, *uninformed*, i dont see a person burning 70% of their brain cells from general use, which was my point.

just a question, have you ever done acid before. because like i said, some people are scared, some are not. please, dont put quotes into my mouth, that change the meaning of what i said. some people really can not handle acid, and thats understandable. and the sense i make, isnt nothing. if you read about the history of acid, and the original use of it, and then books by people who use it freely and have use for it, than tell me its nothing, in your words, you were being uninformed, and imo biased. you have something against acid, and are giving invalid facts that dont pertain to it. what you say may or may not be true i cant answer that question, but those effects are the same for everything, all drugs, and actually mostly everything, including time, does that to your brain. have you ever read anything by tim leary? his work, although bashed and hidden by most was very valid, and was not about some man who was scared less all the time. if you would like some good informed information, read some book by him, the site at the bottom gives a list of a lot of his writings among other links to people who more deeply understand acid and e than your shallow interpretation.
| quote: | | Feelings of fear or confusion accompany those states because your body is trying to warn you. They are not emotions to be ignored. |
once again, you twist the truth to use it in you're text. fear and confusion is when someone doesnt know whats going on, which just like any other time when someone doesnt know whats going on, you experience fear and confusion, its a sensory overload, something you have never felt before and yes your body gives these feeling to almost all new experiences. skydiving, for example, gives the body such a confused feeling that people sometimes forget to breathe, that doesnt mean that you are being killed from the inside. so like i said, you can work with what you are feeling, and make something better from it, because if not, you will be just scared everytime.
once again, i understand maybe my first statement had holes and was only giving less that the entite story, but so does yours. your points are true, but not entirely valid in this example. you simply used a fact that people would react to to sway someone views to yours. lastly, im not uninformed, just i read different texts than you. what you have said is true, and i wont lie by saying drugs are good for you, but you havent given any informed answers like saying well for every one hit thats so and so percent of your brain cells and if you take a lot that will result in this, you just gave a percentage that as far as im concerned is unimportant and unrealistic in terms as how much a 70% loss really is.
